You won't be bored for sureYou hang at the field, unless of course you wear one of those fancy factory Orange and Black, or Red and White shirt types, they all hang out at the local stripper clubs discussing channel hopping versus DSM2 stuff. The local riff raff hangs at the field, just listen for tunes, look for tiki-lamps and there is usually a bull session in progress. Your Friday is already planned with the official IRCHA Casion Night and the definately unofficial FIRCHA thingy afterwards. Saturday evening is the IRCHA bean-feed dinner followed by the Pilots Bridal Shower with all the cool prizes and once the sun sets, the big Night Fly and FIREWORKS show. So bring some energy drinks because sleep is over-rated and you can do that when you die. The week goes by so fast and you spend the next 360 days counting down until you can come back and do it again.
Why just one night at the field in IRCHA can pack so much fun into it.
I camped alone in 2006 and just in one evening I hooked up with some Georgia boys camped next to me. They got a golfcart given to them to use. We ended up night flying up around show center and we ran into the SWARM party and some southern boys. They supplied us with some tasty deep fried spicy chicken wings and I got introduced to rumballs. The Georgia friend put on a nice night flight only to be outgunned by one of the young studs from SWARM that really tore it up. Then the fire department showed up in the middle of the party and proceeded to rip the heck out of a cargo trailer puffing with smoke. Yep, lipo fire inside and 4 90 sized helis cooked away inside. Then the ambulance showed up, one of boys brought a jug of moonshine and one of the folks had a little too much of that and got pretty messed up.
Following morning, another lipo fire in the back of soccer mom SUV-mini van. And when I woke up the field was all foggy and dew covered with a brillant Sun coming up and I am whizzing in the corn only to look over and see Curtiss Youngblood's outline complete with hat, fresh in from Poland and the Worlds, testing a heli for the day's flying. Now if that isn't an "Endless Summer" poster, I don't know what is. Yep, the field is where it is at most of the time.
