I'm converting my TRex 450 into a scale Huges 500 and I need to use a new very small tail servo (either digital or analog) that works very well together with my Futaba 401 gyro. Any "proven" suggestion?

I found here the JRPS287MG really fast and same size; I suppose it is ok; also since they are digital servos I suppose I should set the 401 in digital mode.

don't put a MG servo on the tail. the gears will develop slop
stay with the carbonite gears on the tail
they are also lighter

Marcello,

Can you accomodate the modestly larger size of a 9257?

Nope Dr. Ben I'm just disassembling the 9650 that worked great because of the size! There is almost no space in the Huges 500 fuselage (Align) for the tail servo!

By the way do you too agree that the metal gears can deteriorate? I will use this TRex450 scale version for almost no aerobatic fly so I do not think that the tail servo will be stressed so much...

the tail wont be stressd much but the tail servos do alot of moving to keep the tail locked so yes dont use a metal gear servo

Ok nappyroots2182, I'm ordering the JR290, but in the meantime I'm installing the other (JR287MG) since I have it here.

Please can you have an idea about how much the metal gear one can be used before it "fails" and what are the symptoms of its inefficiency?

sumonzu,

I am doing the same heli. How's it going? I am using the Scorpion 6s motor and 6s Outrage battery. What H/S are you shooting for? How did the tail work out and what heli are you installing. Thanks

The tail servo is working good, but I have used it only few minutes (I also have ready the one with the plastic gears in case of having troubles).
The Huges 500E body made by Align is quite good (not excellent) but BE CAREFUL with the wooden mainframe supports: they break easily if your heli has some vibrations! I had completely rebuilt them with aluminum profiles. I can post/e-mail some pictures if you want.
I'm using a 4S1P Hyperion 3G VX battery on my TRex 450SE fully blinged (!) and it is enough to reach easily 3,000 rpm. Anyway the heli feels "heavy", but now it is a scale model so this is acceptable. Very nice behavior especially with little or almost no wind.
