Is there any reason to buy the bigger, heavier Power Jazz now that the Kontronik Jive 120 is available?

I'm curious to hear you thoughts.

Have you checked the prices of Shulze ESC's lately... Those are more costly if I remember correctly

^^^^^^^^^ Ice cream has gone up in price, as has gasoline, but we're not taliking about that are we; I believe the topic was Jive 120 vs Powerjazz.

I'd like to learn more about the Dual BEC, if I read correctly. Has anyone got a link to a Jive 120 manual?

Control 2 BEC parallel output jacks
It has only 1 BEC but by using two cables between ESC and Receiver, the current being supplied for all the radio gear can be shared.

The PowerJazz is good for up to 15S, I know cause I use them on 15s. I think that the new Jive 120 is only good for up to 12S. Not sure what the newer Shulze ones are good up to (14S I think).

Cheers,
TomC

Jive is "considerably" smaller then the PJ. So if you are looking for size and weight loss then that would be your ticket.

Hi guys,

How do the Jive 120HV and Power Jazz compare in terms of handling the heat?

I'm trying to figure out if its worth it to with a bigger and heavier unit plus an external BEC just because it has an electric cooling fan on it, or if I should just go with the Jive 120HV.

Regards,
G

G,

The PowerJazz fan is not a big deal for heli's, it's more for the EDF guys that bury their escs and don't get much airflow over them.

The main plus's for the PJ is that it will handle up to 15s and has built-in anti-spark. If you are not interested in these features then you might want to consider going to the much lighter (esc and ubec weight savings) Jive120.

I have used 2x PJ escs for +2 years on 10-15s and they have been bullet-proof. I have not had any reason to change them out for a Jive120.

Cheers,
TomC

ReadyHeli has the Jive120HV for $540. That's where I bought mine.

The PowerJazz is now discontinued of course which may or may not influence the decision. There is also supposedly a PJ replacement out due out some time at the end of this year too.

Have not heard that the PJ is dicontinued. Kontroniks is still selling them and listing them on their WebPages;

May be a newer version coming out soon, usually always is!

Yep, that's what I thought - replacement/update due to match the features of the newer Kontronik ESCs.

It was my LHS who passed on that nugget of info BTW, not a dodgy internet rumour

Didn't they announce at the Nuremburg fair that Kontronik is replacing the Jazz series with some new technology? I imagine they would replace the PowerJazz with something else.

Yeah, I read the new, yet to be released KOBY series is up to 6s, and actually user update-able!
