I have my Protos 500 with a Scorpion 880kv on it and unforutnately I am running 5S 3000mAh on it. I am waiting for some 6S's to get here, but until then I have to stick with the 5S. I was flying today at full speed when I attempted to do some flips and quick turns and the tail spun to the right hard then back when tried to correct,, really got me nervous. I was able to gain control but it happened again later when I was at top speed again doing tricks. Is it because my voltage isn't high enough on the 5S and its not holding the tail? Would a 6S hold the tail at top speed where it won't do that! It really had my pucker factor going since it took a second to get control. My buddy says the tail blades aren't spinning fast enough with a 5S since its not putting out enough voltage. Anyone know? Plese help! I am running a Mini G gyro on it so I know its not the gyro!

tail movement during flips is swash interaction.

If the disc is not level after a forward half flip then its the tail.

If the tail is not in the same place after a forward half flip its phasing.

5s? what pinion are you using? If your headspeed is not fast enough and with a huge cyclic you'll bog the head and the authority of the tail. 5s with stock 15 pinion would be pretty low. I just put a new scorpion 880 on my heli and it rocks, using a 100-90-100 T-curve with 6s packs.

I have the Scorpion 880kv as well and using it with a 15T on 5S. My 6S has not arrived yet. I am using 90 flat on idle 2 and 85 flat on idle 1. Still have not been able to tach my headspeed until my friend gets out to the field. My other buddy says it is due to the tail blades since the stock ones are flimsy and mainly because of the 5S and bogging the motor during hard collective because the tail slows and it is not able to keep up due to low voltage. He is saying the new carbon tail blades I have coming today and my 6S should fix it.

The stock tail is the BEST one that I have used. I tried others and always went back to the original as they hold the best. They are fragile so I use a Trex 500 fin and it keeps the tail higher as its 1/4" longer on the bottom. You can try reducing your pitch and see if that helps preventing head bog with the 5s. You can also try increasing gyro gain till the tail starts to wag and then reduce a few click.

Happy Flying!

i think i know what is causing this .
It 's been the same with my protos

The issue is only for carbon protos kit .
The problem is the pastic boom support that slide between the frame
it is not totaly 90 degree whith the mainshaft when you tighten the 4 screw .

this is causing some aileron yaw interaction when gyro is located there.

you may try to push the tail case up when adjust the belt and tight .

my prots carbon was flying like a crap whith tail drift in loop, roll and flip .

enjoy yourself

I have a plastic kit and the same thing happens.

This is interesting since all along I thought it was me. I flew my other helis to test this fact and it is just the Protos that does it.

grizli21.....

Your talking about the 4 bolts with nylon nuts that hold the boom in place? I will have to look at this again to double check.

Well actually, the problem is now fixed thanks to my buddy. It was discovered while having the heli on the bench plugged in that he tail servo was bad. The tail servo was twitching and it had a dead spot, which wasn't allowing the tail to move correctly. I also switched up the tail blades to KB blades and I'm using 6S now as well. I no longer have the problem of the tail holding,, its like a rock now at high speed maneuvers. Also, the Protos is a sick heli on 6S,, what a difference from the 5S I was using. All I can say is DAMN!!!

blades 345 : glad that everything is alright now .

mlucia : i dont think it happens to the platic kit .but on mine the support is moving backward and forward for the belt tension but also upward and downward due to little play into the hole for the bolts .so the gyroscope is not exacty flat .
The interaction was gone when i pushed the boom upward when tightened the screws .
