I've been looking for a work stand that can help my back during the maintenance and also with the display, especially with my scale MD500E where I need it to be 13" between the skids. I see a few heli stand on the market that the distance between the skids is either not wide enough between the skids for my MD500 or it's too short, as in, I have to put it on a table to display it.

Well, I found this Tilt-A-Whirl heli workstand while searching around for one. It looks very promising, so I contacted Chris Moody, the designer/owner of this workstand. I found out that it won't support my MD500E because it's too short between the two skids. "No problem", said Chris "I'll make a new one that you can comfortably extend to 14 inches for you." Cool, I waited for 2 weeks while Chris designed and made a new one. While at it, he made a bunch others as well. With the volume that he's making, he informed me that the price would be down to $135 from the original $150. What's cool is now even cooler. About 10 days later, I contacted Chris and "Done, your stand is ready."

I received the box. The parts are individually wrapped. Most of the smaller parts are already assembled. I only have a few parts to really call it "assembling". The part finish and quality is very good.

Guess what, it's also made in the USA. Another endangered species?

Just for kicks, I mounted the Trex-600ESP at a few different directions and the heli is very stable where I put it. There are so many switches that I can turn and put the heli at the angle/direction that I like. It takes a little used to with these switches.

I do like the adjustable heights for the tray. There are two extensions where I can make the stand much higher or lower.

The attached velcro is there to keep the skids secure.

And here, my MD500E sits comfortably on the stand. I removed the tray to make a better display stand for the scale.

I really like this heli stand. It's just a great display for my MD500 or another heli that I want to put in the living room for display.

Nice review, thanks for taking the time to share. I thought I saw these at IRCHA last year? Seemed like the same kind of options... I played around with it quite a bit and it seemed well thought out.

I loved the idea, but questioned the expense. After working on helis for a while now and all the cumbersome-ness that comes along with it, I am re-thinking getting a stand like this.
