Just wondering if theft is or has been a big concern at IRCHA or other large events..??

Considering the size of the IRCHA flightline it could take a flyer some time to get back to their pit area.

I know last year I saw many pit areas unattended with models ...

Your thoughts please.

It hasn't been a "big" concern, but I have heard of a few problems with radios disapearing. Guess that is a big concern if it's your radio.

The government cannot give you anything without first taking it from someone else.

Yes, I talked to a "large" company that was there and they lost over a thousand dollars worth of display stuff one day. someone wasn't watching very carefully and a thief walked off with a lot of goodies

So yes, watch your stuff! Try to have good friends to "tent" with you under your canopy, that way someone will be there most of the time.

Which is worse, ignorance or apathy? I don't know and I don't care!

Your going to have theft no matter what event you go to it seems like. Just because someone is in the rc hobby dont make them honest. You would hope they are as it is all a commen interest but it never works that way. We had a couple that joined the local club 5 yearsor so ago. Nice kid and his wife. Well people started missing little things from thier flight box's went on for a month or so then one nite they broke into the storage unit and stole the club trainer and radio. Needless to say they were booted and arrested and all theft had stoped. If your concerned about something lock them up if you leave your pit area thats the best you can do. But you will find most at that event as honest. Just always going to be one or two bad apples.

Best Advise....

There are always going to be that selected "FEW" that may be around....

I have not had a problem over the years, but it is always good practice to not just leave everything laying open while you are not there...at any show/event that you would attend.... minimize the temptation...

The nice thing is, IF someone does catch a theif there at Ircha,

There IS a BIG cornfield right next to the flight areas to dispose of the body

With an event the size of IRCHA a few security people might
be a good idea.

In 5 years of attending IRCHA theft has not once been an issue that I recall.

The closest thing that happened was a JR radio was mistakenly picked up during a major storm and put into someones car. The guy got his radio back the next day when things dried up.

Other than that, the only thing to be lost at IRCHA is money to vendors.

Just because you were not told of it happening, or didn't see it happen, or never heard any of the details of it happening,

Doesn't mean it didn't happen.

I asked the vendor when I was told by one of their reps about it why they didn't make an annoucement that morning and they said "It wouldn't matter, and to them it was negitive news and they didn't want pursue it any farther then the police report."

If a bear flatulates in the woods and nobody hears him,
. . . . does that mean he didn't do it ?

Sometimes it is not R/C people taking items, most events have spectators wandering through. I went to the Bakersfield event years ago and over heard two guys discussing grabbing a helicopter from the pit area of the guy next to me. I told him about it and we watched our area a lot closer from then on. Craig B

You'd think fun fly events are harmless. It is amazing to discover the theft happening at both large and small events alike. I had my $400 iPod stolen from the sound booth recently, and I thought it was in good hands and had no worries. It still happened...

So much is going on all at one time that it looks very natural for anyone to be holding a tool, an engine, a radio, or an entire heli in their hands while walking down the field with it. Whose to say that person stoled it? And really now: who's looking after your belongings? No one, it is our own responsibility.

As retarded as it is, that is reality.

I had some things stolen at ircha. I was wrenching on some helis and left my tools, some lipos, and electronics out on the bench during a test flight. When I returned everything was gone. A couple of other guys in the same area said they had some things swiped, too.

I was so disappointed! Greed creeps in everywhere.
