Has anyone done crank mod on an ys50st like you can do on a os50h,ie remove the webbing on crank, drama is had rear bearing fail and was a real b**** to get off had to cut it off in the end with and oxy but accidently leveled bearing on the webbing and cracked it so I thought easy fix would be to do the crank mod like what happens on os50,Has any one actually done this to a ys50st and does it work?

the ys50 motors are already extremly smooth, doing the mod would most like create more vibrations thus causeing more rear bearring damage.. the reason it was done on the OS50 is because the cranks were out of balance, on the YS its about as close as it gets stock from the factory.

no... it was done on the Hyper50 because the webbing is obstructing the oil from bathing the bearings as it runs, and it doesnt seem to matter about the balance after the mod or without the mod. but I wouldnt say they are out of balance in the first place.

I did my OS 50 for balancing purposes,It doesnt help with the oiling of the rear bearing to remove the webbing. I wouldnt cut any more off the webb on the YS than you need too.

there was plenty of reasons but the most common was balance, the idea was an out of balance crank shaft would beat on the bearring alot more than a balanced one.

You don't need to do any mods the the YS, it's just fine as it is.
It does make a small improvement to the smooth running of the OS50Hyper but it still eats bearings

So, you guys do think the OS50 hyper is out of balance before the mod? I have two of them, and havnt had the nerve to cut anything in them, even after replacing the bearings every three to five gallons of fuel through them. Im disgusted with the performance, but afraid to do more by modifying them. I cant tell that they are running rough either. why hasnt OS done anything about it themselves?

Hrm, I swear I would get up to 100 flights with no bearings going bad on say 2/4 attempts or so with the OS. Other 2 times, it was WTF at 30-50 flights. I run my stuff a click or two richer than most.

Up to 100 + with the stock YS 50 at the moment, still running like a champ. Will be the first to tell you all when it breaks. It get's the snot beat out of it every flight, kinda like a 125cc dirt bike!

Unless something catastrophic happens, will just take it apart in a month or so, when I finally swap it out with a new one, and rebuild it where needed.

2 engines are nice to have, never really stuck when you have another and a trex, not that expensive!

With the OS50Hyper it is commonplace for the bearings to give up after 30 flights OR go onto 300 or so flights. Go figure

Guys I know the issues with os50h but the question was if the webbing is removed on a ys50st will it case engine running/tuning issues, after all the webbing is only there to keep the balls and cage out of the way of the conrod when the bearing fails isnt it!!

The webbing is there to "stuff" the crankcase. In other words take up space so that there is less volume in the lower end. As the piston goes down compressing the mixture in the lower end, this less volume increases the pressure. This pressure is what pushes the fuel air charge up into the cylinder via the transfer and boost ports. To answer your question, yes you can remove the webbing. Single cylinder engines can not be totally balanced. Generally removing the webbing helps make the motor more in balance as it is hard to get enough counter weight. Some manufactures (Webra for one) actually weld a slug of denser metal in the counterbalance. I have removed the webbing on my OS 61 SX and really did not notice any difference. What can it hurt to try it? The crank is already toast!

If the webbing is already nessed up go ahead and remove it,what do you have to loose but a little time.
