Just bought a used Trex off of the classified here, and maidened it today. Heres what happened...

First 3 flights were basic hovering and forward flight. 4th flight I hovered it inverted, flipped back/forwards, all fine. Then I went for a stationary roll and the tail blew out inverted, so I righted it and brought it towards me. But the controls were all fkd up, like it had a 2 second delay to everything I was trying to do. I got it to the point of being withing 15 feet of the ground, and hit the throttle hold.

The RX Im using is an OLD AR6000. Would this be the most probable reason?

There is no binding or slop in the head.

Thanks for any help!
Alex

401. I get it a little tail wag while hovering, but it goes away in forward flight. It should be right about there, right?

The gain settings sounds correct. Maybe drop down a number since it is wagging at hover. On the gyro, turn down the delay to zero if it is not.

The old AR600 seemed to be the greatest receiver since sliced bread when it was introduced...my how times change. Other than being a short-range park flyer radio, unless it's been drilled into the ground over and over, it should do a respectable job being the radio link to your heli.

The delay you're talking about seems as if maybe you were going in and out of failsafe, or perhaps the receiver was resetting due to low voltage out of the speed control/BEC.

I'd first look at the speed control/BEC current capacity, the health of your battery pack, and that system's ability to maintain a decent voltage under demanding conditions before blaming the receiver.

I'd also take a close look at all the soldered connections and anything else that carries power to the various parts of your system. That, followed by checking to see how freely all linkages move. Stiff linkages put a heavy demand on servos, which, in turn, puts a heavy demand on the power delivery system.

The tail blowing out was only part of your problem, as you experienced weirdness with other flight control functions at the same time. Gyro gain alone won't cause what you saw. An inadequate power system WILL.

Figured it out!
I went over everything that duceduc and dkshema mentioned, and it turned out to be a loose flybar paddle. I was flyin it earlier today, and when I started to have the same problem, I landed immediatly. One of the flybars was turned completely vertical. When I had gone over the setup after recieving it, I only checked to make sure that the paddles were even.

Tightened that bad-boy, spooled her up, and proceeded to doing some continuous piro-flips 3 feet off the ground. Nah, JK, more like 130 feet off the ground, but give me a year and we'll see.

Thanks for all the help!

Now there's an off-the-wall cause. Glad you found it.
