I sooo thought this thread was going to be like one of those flying lawnmowers... but I wanted to see someone that managed to get a scale dirtbike flying somehow.

I am sad and disappointed.

Me too, I was hopeing it was some kind of new flying machine that doesent cost as much as an aeroplane or helicopter.
Lets face it the way it is right now, you need to either be very wealthy to pay $200hr for f/lessons, or to fly in the airforce, you need to leave school with nothing but A grades in every subject, and even then your chances of ever getting in are as good as winning the loto.
I hope they invent something like an air bike in my life time, but I cant see it happening, I think the joy of flight will be something only ever realised by the upperclass elite.

Well, I recieved all of my ratings in the late 80's. It was equivalent to 4 year of college. I did this with the sole intention of flying for a living. I also managed the local airport and worked at a grocery store to help pay for my lessons. So yes aviation is far more expensive than it was back then, but the average pay was also much less then as well. To say that general aviation is something for the "elite" is not quite accurate IMHO. There are several general aviation planes out there that don't cost any more than a new automobile. Actually buying a plane is a MUCH better investment than an automobile if you look at it with an accounting aspect. Also, boats aren't too cheap to own or maintain either. There are also ultralight type aircraft that are less expensive than the majority of turbine rc helis and planks out there.

The only thing about general aviation that is not in line with the rest of the rising prices is the cost of fuel.

€19.500 for a built airbike, what currency is that NZ or US??
If its new NZ I think thats about $10000 aus, which is something like $7000-8000 in US dollars, thats not bad at all.
worked at a grocery store to help pay for my lessons.
Yep point taken, I shoot from the hip sometimes, I did lessons for a while when I was a younger wealthier man, but then I started earning average Joe wages and that was the end of that, been green with envy ever since.

Ive wracked my brains trying to think of some way I can get myself airborne on a budget my whole life, Those motorized parachute thingie`s look like the way to go.
