I might be trading for a protos in the next couple of days. Here's the details that the guy sent me.

(it is not cf,it does have the v3 tail and v2 grips, all stock, align ds 510 on cyclic,401 9650 on tail and hobbywing platinum 80 esc, also has ms composite main blades)

Is there any problems with that stuff or anything i should know about. I did some research and it looked good, now i just want personal Preference

I would be looking to do some 3d with it so will these electronics be able to manage that?

Thanks Runryder

The electronics aren't bad,but the 401 is better for nitro instead of electric because of the instant torque with electric. Also the 9257 is much quicker on the tail then the 9650. I am not sure about the other servos. As for the tail case and tail grips it depends on when he bought it. There is an update pack on Readyheli for 11bucks, which includes the V3 tail case, the V2 tail blade grips, the newest flybar carrier, and more parts. I personally love the Protos and would get it. I'm sure someone here knows more about the electronics than me, so see what else is said. Good luck!

Not true.
I still have my original belt (over a year old now) and it's been thru one major crash.

I do take care of it though. I lubricate it with pure silicon oil very so often.

I don't know where you get your info from but that is completely wrong. The 401 is fine for the Protos as well as the 9650. The Protos does not eat belts unless they are not adjusted correctly.........Ron

60 flights one crash and belt is fine. They do not give problems once properly set.

To be honest some of the electronics would not be my prefered choice. For me at least the ESC is an unknown and the gyro is not ideal for 3d.

As a kit the Protos is excellent and if it were me I would try and get it without the gyro and esc and add my own. That is just my personal preference though. Apart from that its a matter of checking the history of the machine as is the case when buying any heli second hand.

I didn't know for sure until two days ago

Put mine in hard and broke the following:

Canopy
Blade grips
Two link rods bent
main shaft and feathering spindle
vertical and horizontal fin

Note mine is flybarless so that is a factor in the low damage sustained.

Everything else was fine. The parts are cheap and when not being crashed its near maintenance free. What heli likes crashing? I think it holds up very well. To make this the lightest 500 on the market means some sacrifice in overall strength. I don't consider crash robustness a factor in choosing a heli though. I want them to fly well which the Protos does.

Fergus

I know Laughingstill thinks the 401 is good but I like better electronics on mine. The 401 will work but when you push it hard lets see if Laughingstill is right when your tail doesn't hold that well. Also the 9650 isn't bad but the 9257 is quicker and is actually made for the tail. You will see a difference. Use what you get for now on and enjoy it.

I crashed my CF Protos very hard and the crash damage was very reasonable. The carbon frames don't have a scratch. If you shatter your plastic frames just upgrade to the carbon. The body is very very stiff. Amazing!

The gyro depends on your style and budget. I used a 401 with a 9650 for a few months, then got a steal on a 7703d with a 9257.

I like the 770 a lot better, but the 401 was just great.

My belt broke only after I tightened it way too much.

The only concern I have with the parts listed above the the BEC and can it handle it. I learned the hard way that the CC BEC didn't provide the power I needed, and would blink out every once in a while, causing 2 autos. It may have been defective before it released the magic smoke. I know use a western Robotics without an issue.
