Ed, whats your take on the Lithium-Iron-Phosphate (Life) batteries featured on page 21 of the latest Model Aviation Magazine?

It sounds very promising, if it performs as advertised.

LiFe batteries can take more abuse than LiPo batteries in terms of discharge they have more charge cycles they are safer than lipo when charging. the thing u need to be careful with is that they will hold their capacity longer then drop off quickly

Like George said the have a relatively flat output voltage under load and then all of a sudden dump when at end of capacity. Their nominal full charge voltage is typically 3.6 compared to 4.2 volts per cell on a lipo. I did not read the article yet but I believe their max current capacity is also less then LIPO technology.

From Joe as per Al (older AL) not Young Al.

"Dear RCRCC Members,
Just letting you all know that the Clarkstown Model Aerodrome is closed until further notice because the access roads to the heli and fixed wing fields have not been plowed and are totally impassable. As soon as the roads are reopened we'll let you know.

Thanks,
Joe"

The town did make an attempt to get up there and clear the parking area but their equipment started to slide on the underlying ice. They consider it unsafe. Any attempts need to only be made by 4WD if at all. If you get stuck it is your sole responsibility to get your vehicle un-stuck and you need to be out by sundown.

Sorry guy's

Got the email. Impassable??? F150 4 wheel drive in low I can get up there. With the warmer weather the snow melt is significant. Did the town say we cant utilize the field or is this a in house decision?

No problem George. A couple of years ago Ahmed and myself attempted to make it up to the airplane field after a heavy snow. I had tried the heli side but had the same problem you had with bottoming out. When we tried the airplane side I made it up but Ahmed was not behind me. Went half way back down to find him out of the tracks I had made and starting to slide off the road.

We managed to get him straightened out and backed down the hill. Called it quits after that.

A lot of snow had melted in Manhattan where I work but I was surprised to see a lot had not when I got home.

Its seemed to good to be true.
It would be great if it met all the specs we need to fly with.
