+2 on Futaba. The 8FG seems to be a good fit for heli.

You don't need telemetry, there is no benefit to telemetry in RC modeling IMO.

Maybe some scale modelers, or perhaps sail planes, gliders etc. As far as I'm concerned, and in the short time I've been in the hobby, the current telemetry offered on the DX8 serves no practical purpose for pod and boom helis (sport to 3D). For one your never going to look down at your Tx for engine RPM, Temp, Alt, or battery charge but for one time, that would be the time you crash, and hopefully you'll never do it again.

And for two...the FAA is going through a NPRM process proposed for late this year, it is unclear but there is a possibility that any two way aircraft (telemetry) will have to carry a special license, not worth the hassle.

And for three...the radio's I mentioned are all 11ms and 2048 resolution, in addition the 11X has 0.25 step programmability.

whatever you choose make sure it feels good in your hands, FIRST. figure out the rest later. -- j

Futaba limitations.

At current there is no FBL system for futaba that will act as a receiver, up to and including Futaba's new FBL system.

At current all FBL systems capable of acting as a Rx are for JR systems only.

@ Scott nice. but you cannot fly that here.

There is another option mentioned the hitec aurora 9 I believe that is correct. Benny and Justin use it and I don't recall them mentioning any issues. It has telemetry as well. They were using the telemetry associated to an alarm monitoring main battery voltage on their electric Heli. They were able to tell when they were approaching the end of the pack. The frequency of alarms would go up on hard collective moves.

As far as taking your eyes off the Heli to look at your telemetry readings not a good idea at all.

Concerning FBL systems I can only speak about V-bar for now but buying a fancy high end radio would be a waste of money unless you plan on doing a scale Heli in the future. With the V-Bar system you set the swash selection to 1 to 1 no mixing. Fine tune your sub trim so center stick reads zero on the V-bar then set your end points on the radio for 100% on the V-Bar. After that you never go into your radio unless you want to control expo adjustment from the radio. All other control adjustments are handled within the FBL system.

with telemetry, they should have a voice chip in transmitter that the user can hear rather then see, Its hard enough to glance at your timer in the sun, my edf can go 115mph in a dive at full throttle WHO'S FLYING TODAY ?

100mph....lol

Well, I was actually looking at the 8FG, but since I just ordered a FBL Trex 700, I guess that wouldn't be too smart. Maybe I'll just grab a DX7se to hold me over until I decide I "need" a massive radio. Maybe by then, there will be something better out.

I wish I had a way to check out an 11x in person. I agree, it would be nice to actually pick up, look at, and hold a radio before I buy it, but I don't think that's possible atm.

What I do want in a radio, in this order, is:

1.) Dependability: Worthless if it's going to brown-out or crash my .90 heli

2.) Quality: The more the better, within $$$ reason

3.) Sexiness: Still can't decide if the 11x is sexy or a nerdy transformer in disguise.

Yeah, just stumbled on to more forums about the DX8 dated this month with people sending it back, having problems binding

Oh well, thought I had done my homework.

David you are correct. The feel of the radio and gimbals is a nice point to get right. What is good for one person is not a match for another.

I like my 12fg smooth gimbal movement. The radio also does not feel like a box of air.

@ skybob
I thing there are some of the tray style radios coming stateside that mentioned voice telemetry. I will do some research.

I will finance you for fuel if you want Bob Who knows having some nitro laying around may cause me to build a nitro Heli.

NOT.....

About FBL, if I pickup the Futab 8FG, I assume I can just run the Futaba receiver in conjunction with the FBL system? Will this be too much of a headache? The first upgrade I'll be doing will be moving from 3G to V-Bar, but it wont be for quite some time.

skybob, if that question was for me, I just realized how unclear my post was.

I'm simply wondering if I can use a Futaba 8FG on my FBL 700 without too much headache. Maybe use the Futaba receiver for radio reception and the 3G for the gyro functions. Or if I'd be much better off just getting a JR radio and only needing 1 module on the heli.

And it also looks like hitec will be releasing an add on for their aurora 9 system.

As far as the difference between 3G and v-bar for both of us right now just a bigger hole in the credit card. But as we get better we may notice performance differences. Reason I went v-bar is I went with the mikado logo and at the time the v-bar development seemed to be designed around the logo platform but since then has been refined for others.

Can't wait to hear helixangles response when he upgrades to ver 5.1

I hear good things from the 3d pilots that post.
