The cost of a SDX canopy is almost half a bill. What type of canopy comes with the kit(plastic or fiber glass)?

I can't recall a plastic canopy costing nearly $50, especially for a 50 size heli. I guess you have to pay the cost to fly with the boss (Hirobo)!!

The plastic jug does not break as easy as the fiberglass ones. The one thing that breaks easy on the canopy is the windshield...

If it breaks, and if there are any aftermarket fiberglass canopies for the SDX, why not buy one of those instead

Naw, I can't say that I have. I definitely miss living in Japan. It was so convenient to have your pick of which RC Shop to buy from. Maybe, I should become one of the middle man in this hobby.

Strange. Last time I checked you got the canopy with the kit, you don't have to buy it separate

What is wrong with the plastic jug?

For those that answered rotordisc.dk on this side of the Pond (i.e. Europe) I can tell you that they have yet to get, at least, the main blade holders and landing gears in stock.

Yes, mine took a slight beating due to engine failure at the wrong place in a loop so I'm waiting for these and a few more parts from rotordisc.dk myself. It was a relatively mild crash, not room for a proper auto.

Hi Henrik

"what is wrong with the plastic jug"

Answer.....the "COST" of what is after all a plastic jug

I can't refind the canopy with screen on Ripoff's web site but the combined canopy with screen was circa £50 to £60 from memory and the screen alone is £21

While there is a lot of "you get what you pay for" these prices for a plastic moulding seem high, and will put up repair costs unecassarily in my view.

I like the look of the model canopy included and some items may be high quality and justifya little extra cost the jug not included in my view.

Normally these plastic jug canopies hold up pretty well in a crash. They might look a little beat up, but that is okay in my opinion. My Sceadu canopy took a beating in a crash many years ago, and the thing that broke was the windshield.

I might have to start a new thread to see if anybody can break your record of no decent crash in 11 years naaaaaaaaa i'll just crown you the winner of that one.
I must say i'm not going to listen to your posts regards crash costs as you have far too little experience in this area and I dont like tatty so the "jug" would need replacing after a smash

My Raptor had the same canopy it's entire life despite 4 crashes. It was plastic.

If you prefer, I'm sure you can get an aftermarket fiberglass for a little more. But it will be destroyed in every crash. My fiberglass canopy is already cracked and has NEVER been crashed. Just from taking it on and off it cracked.

Give me plastic. Give me belt drive. Give me whatever works and holds up well!

I'm sick of MATERIALS driving what is "good for us" in this hobby. A plastic canopy will survive all but the worst crashes and fiberglass will crack at the slightest miff. I'm now convinced that the Hyper engine's success despite its rear bearing issues is due to the BLING BLUE HEAD.

Man, look past materials and ask what will hold up or work well?! People instead look past the issues for the SAKE OF THE MATERIALS?! It's the tail wagging the dog.

I get the feeling that the SDX is made for guys to push hard and crash often.

Exscuse me guys I am NOT complaining about the canopy of itself I am moaning about the COST of replacement in the UK !
When you post you are fed up with people complaining on grounds of materials used that is not what I am saying here, and yes I have had a hyper with blingy blue head which you cant see when in the model, but now i'm going upmarket with an engine that has a purple head so must be superior for power cooling smooth running and of yea hopefully NO issues

I think I might add i've owned the following models
Freya x2
Sceado
Sceado EVO
Raptor 30 x2
Raptor 50 x2
Raptor 60
Raptor 90
Raptor SE
All the above had plastic Jugs
I currently have the Raptor 3D with both the new design glass canopy and the plastic job as well it is the plastic canopy I use.

While at it I like the Align 600 canopy for light weight well painted cheap to buy easy to fit.
I think the Vibe 50 canopy was for me too stiff and heavy for my liking
The new Titan SE canopy looks like a nice compromise of weight well painted etc

I agree the glass canopies fracture and need replacement but then in my experience the plastic ones can crease and then no longer hold their shape very well.

So in the end I have no problem using either type. I commented I was slightly put off by the UK retail price for the SDX replacement.

It appears to me from this side of the pond the guys in the USA are better served.
