I talked with Buzz a few weeks back on the phone and I was impressed with his knowledge and ingenuity in fuels. I'm considering ordering some of this 30DS Magnum to run in my Vibe50 with YS50ST/Align muffler combo. I have plenty of CY30% fuel stocked, but I generally mix this with 15% Wildcat 2/4 cycle fuel to create a 22.5% blend for my 90's which they run great on. Any power loss is transparent to me, at least at my modest skill set.

For the 50 size I'm afraid the power loss would be more noticable, and I've read where past users had good luck wtih the DS blend, but then I've heard from a few fliers that could never get decent power out of it. I get the impression they thought it was barely sport flying worthy.

I'm also quite spoiled with the power of the 90 helis, so I want good climb out power, and ability to do fast tic tocs. I know collective management comes into play, but certainly power does too .

If this 30DS can give me the power I want I'll give it a go. I know from a few threads I read that the newest blend doesn't require special plugs or re-shimming, but that you can re-shim for even more power.

My next question is, by re-shimming are users taking out the head gasket all-together??? Or just putting a thinner one in?

I have been using the DS 30 for close to two years now and have had no problems. I will tell you that you have to retune engine. I have ran it on os 50 hyper, ys 50 , TT 53 and OS 91. There are guys at my field using it as well. The performance is there for the taking. I belive it to easier on the bearing for my change has gone to yearly versus every 6 month as when running regular 30%. I always giggle when I got to funflys and people tell me fuel is no good then see me fly it. Let them pay $25 - $27 for 30% is what I say to myself. Got videos of fuel performance with temps on U-tube.

It's like I said earlier, I have used the DS blend since it was put into the market. I as well as 4 out of 7 heli pilots in my club have used it with excelent results. True that one must have a bit of knowledge on tunning engines but if anyone has a bit of experience then they will have no problem dialing engine in.

I Hear that you can no longer go by temps. So aside from that as a help, do you just start very rich and tune down from there slowly until you hit the sweet spot and insure you don't go lean?

Hi John,
Well it will give you the power you want if you can tune it and it sounds like you can. Yes, to your question above... With out changing shims it will give you the power of 30% nitro and if you want more then you can change the shims it depends on your Alt. to weather you take the hole shim or just put a thinner one... If you have any detailed questions or need any help just pm me. I've been testing and running this fuel on every engine out there the only one that I have not tested is the Os HZ....
