Without doubt a fantastic mind, and to our shame he is often forgotten.

Like a lot of the great minds he battled with what we would now call insanity. A fantastic scientist and engineer.

Thanks for posting that.

Not entirely, thankfully.

I did a history report on Tesla for my Embry Riddle degree work. very interesting guy, and the modern RC world owes him a lot. GE owes him the world, however.

I first read about Tesla and his accomplishments many years ago, and this thread is a refreshing reminder of how much one great thinker can, through diligently applied science, contribute to the prosperity of our species.

Wikipedia has a detailed read as well.

Great man. Great thread.

Here's my tesla coil. Haven't fired it up yet but all the components are built. Even found a 25kva pole pig to use for the transformer. Of course I'll have to limit the power drastically if I use the pig. Also been collecting microwave over transformers and neon sign transformers.

There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness."

Can't get enough of his research

I've got all his - Biographs, and his autobiograph -and most of his drawings that made publishment. Most don't give credit for his discovery and development of the science of A.C. motor, Single and 3- Phaze, electromagnitizm and his last shenaigans in Colorado Springs.

What's depressing is what Edison, and Westinghouse did to him, and that Marconi - stole his patents for the radio . Most of the reseach was lost, and went missing 24hr's after his death. Died flat broke in poverty.

Lot of current research is being performed today and being recreated by reverse enginneering today -trying to find his gravity wave therory - tax dollars at work !

If we only had a unlimited free source of current and lot's of cheap copper -

I have to agree with GREYEAGLE.
He also battled thugs, thieves and saboteurs, like Edison, Westinghouse and Marconi.

Nice tesla coil. I like the Van De Graaf generators too. Actually our belt driven helis are sometimes an unintended generator of static electricity.

You maybe on to something there HugeOne as far as actually putting theories into action. Da Vinci gets a chit load of points just for the time in which he was born, Waaaay ahead of his time.

No dowdy bowdit.

Imagine the angst of having few (if any) peers with which to share your loftiest ideas. Da Vinci no doubt had very few acquaintances with whom he could casually 'bounce around' his endless stream of ideas about what could be . . .

What a sharp, shiny, well-defined noodle that brilliant ol' pasta-head had.

I just don't understand why he would refer to a pigeon as his wife. Other than that, yes, he was one of the most brilliant people ever to have lived.

Strange indeed, it was probably the only creature he could trust after getting screwed over by human folk just a theory of course

I've done a lot of reading about Tesla and very facinated by him. Anyone see the movie "The Prestige" with Hugh Jackman. Great movie and gives a little bit of story about Tesla.
