Hi,

I have a temporary issue with my charger, which comes down to the fact that I can not balance my LiPo's during charging until the issue is fixed (few weeks probably).

Is it okay to charge LiPo's without balancing them for a while? The batteries are new, but they are 6s 5000mah. Am I taking risks by not balancing them properly?

Thanks

JP

You should be usinga a balancer especially a pack that high. You may get by with couple of charges w/o it but you risk it. IMO.

I wouldn't suggest it...
Even a brand new LiPo needs to be balanced...

A workaround might be the use of a separate balancer... (not that expensive!)

We've all seen LiPos burning just like that... would you take such a risk

I don't remember exactly how many years it was between ThunderPower starting to sell LiPos and their first battery having a balance connector, but it was quite a while. I still have some TP batteries without a balance connector (although they're about at the end of their useful life).

If you do decide to charge without a balancer be even more vigilant about the possible fire hazards. Charge where any fire can be contained without collateral damage and don't leave the battery unmonitored.

If you have access to a voltmeter, most of the risk can be mitigated by checking cell voltages before and during charge. (Otherwise, an AstroFlight Blinky is about the cheapest 6S balancer last time I looked).

My original TP 2100 3s lipos were without balancer taps.

You can charge without balancing. Its just not safe, nor cost effective on your packs. You can kill your $250 5000mah lipos. You can get a 6s blancer in the classifieds cheap.

I wouldn't risk it over a couple of weeks with that size battery.

It's a complex, costly, glow powered anti-gravity machine!
