Yesterday my motor kept getting to 230-240F and I didnt know why.No matter how rich I ran it the motor would get hot. When I got home I seen that the plug on the bottom of my tune pipe came out .Put a plug back in it and tryed to get one last flight in today and she pooped out on me and had to auto.Checked over everything and all is perfect so im putting a new ring in it tomorrow.I did get a flight in but knew I was pushing my luck with this one cause it was very windy but all went well .All about having fun,$20 bucks and i'll be good to go .

Maybe I'm wrong, but your head sounds like it's SCREAMING. You gotta be over 2200 rpm!

Its cause theres no compression.I had the high speed 4 full turns out and the head speed/motor would spin faster and faster as it got warmer.I knew it would cut out any time but I wanted to fly. After thinking about it ,it was dumb cause I could have caused more problems.

You probably did. I wouldn't be surprised if the piston and sleeve need replacing now too.. Good thing you didn't throw a blade.

Live and learn eh?

definatly replace the ring. but while your at it, do the rear bearing, and take a close look at the sleeve. the sleeve is normally ok, but check for score marks.

then get someone to tach your heli.

WOW!! Yup, she was a-screeeeeeming. Something was mighty wrong, no loss of compression did that, in fact is had good compression to run that speed....LOSS of compression was the result.

4 turns out , and still lean....you were plugged up , boy.

Yikes, that could have grenaded, bad.

Why Hover a Yak, when a Heli does it better?

After taking the motor apart its loss of compression just like I thought and thats 4 turns out from the setting ive been running it at for the past 4 gallons lol.I replaced the bearings when I first got the motor with my heli (both used) and allready knew it needed a ring but when the plug on the tune pipe came out it finished the ring.I pulled the crank while I was in there and my new bearings still look new and spin nice and smooth like day one.I can see the hone marks in the sleeve so im picking a new piston and ring up tomorrow .This dose make me feel good though cause I now know everything on my heli and in the motor is new .

If your only replaceing the piston and ring then make sure you run it rich extra long. It will take about twice as long as a normal break-in period because the ring has to take shape of the old liner...and crank down that HS!!!!

The head speed and throttle settings are fine, the motor didnt have enough back pressure to feed fuel to the carb,no matter how many turns out with the high speed needle it was still running lean. All my settings are perfect and the motor ran pretty good for the last few gallons but when the plug backed off the bottom of the tune pipe yesterday it finished the ring.I was just hoping to get a few flights in after putting the plug back in.I'll run a nice rich gallon through it tomorrow or the next nice day when I get the new ring and piston.Theres nothing wrong with the piston but I wanna replace it cause everything will be new and i'll feel better.Just need to keep an eye on the plug or get a pipe that dosen't have it.I had no ideal the plug was missing till I got home and I checked the fuel system leaks the whole day,Start it up and she kept getting hot and I didnt know why.Got home, tipped the heli to whipe it down and seen the missing plug.

ok good,That HS was pretty insane,I thought you had it set up like that.

Yeah just run a gallon or so through it should be fine,go over all your fuel lines to check for leaks.

Yeah you can hear the head speed pick up alot right before 1 min into the video and I was in idleup the whole time lol, never turned the heli off,I landed, checked the temp, turned the high end out another 2 full turns and thats when she started recording. The head speed started climbing so I knew she was finished and was ready for the auto.Where should I start off with the high end for break-in,3 1/2 turns out?

Mine was pig rich at 1.5 turns out. OS says 1.5 turns for break in in the manual.

Check your fuel lines sounds like you are sucking in air. Make sure carb. is on tight. and check backing plate to see if it is tight.
