Briko Air Services helicopter pilot Captain Nigel Ramsahai escaped possible death when the helicopter he was flying experienced mechanical difficulties and he was forced to land it in the sea. The incident took place shortly after Ramsahai left Galeota Point en route to Petrotrin platform Bravo.
A press release issued by Briko’s director of operations Marcellino De Freitas stated, "Prior to arriving at Platform Bravo the helicopter experienced mechanical difficulties and the pilot Captain Nigel Ramsahai, the only person on board, elected to ditch the helicopter in the sea just short of the platform landing the helicopter safely on its floats." The release also said the company carried out its emergency response plan and informed the Trinidad and Tobago Civil Aviation Authority. An investigation is being carried out to determine the cause of the incident.
