When I am in fast forward flight, usually in a steep banked turn, my tail will rapidly twitch side to side a few inches 4-5 times until I back out of the turn, and it will return to normal.

I've tried adjusting the gyro gain up and down with no luck. My last hope was that it was static discharge, but after grounding the entire heli (ran a ground wire from the carbon tail case, to the boom, to the rx, to the motor mount and verified continuity) the problem seems to still be there. Has anyone ran into this problem? It only happens when I am flying really fast and carving turns, which is why it is bothering me so much, as that is the worst time for it to happen. I dont fly 3d, I use this bird for AP, and it works great for that, it's only when I'm flying agressivly when this happens. The tail seems to be holding well other than this issue. Am I missing something?

Sounds like you have too high gain on the 401 still, question, do you use stock plastic tailblades, if so it might help to change to CF blades (then you can run lower gain with same holding power).

I've dropped down the gain on the 401, then I notice that the tail will not hold on full collective punch-outs. I'm at 65% gain on a JR 9303, does that sound about right? I am using trex 600 CF tail blades, could that be the problem?

Well if your tail is not holding on full collective punchouts it sounds like your RPM is too low to hold it regardless of gain.
That would sound like the case as AP people run lower RPM anyway.

Your gyro gain is too high which explains the stuttering in a turn.

Thanks. I'll try lowering the gain and see what happens.

You were right, it was the gain. It is now set at 45%, and that seems to be working.

I can't believe I overlooked it, the tail is holding great. I have always had my gain on other helis set around 60%, it really never occured to me that it should be so low. I also never have had a helicopter that performs like the logo, so I never ran into this problem. What an amazing helicopter. Thank you all for your help.
