Pie Dish is also called funnel?

The helicopter will prescribe remote circuits centred on the contest centreline. The model will maintain an acute angle while flying sideways at constant speed, altitude and attitude. There will be at least 4 complete revolutions, skids in, skids out, nose up or nose-down.

Anyone can enlighten?

pie dish and funnels, not forgetting others like the wall of death are pretty much the same thing. A pie dish is generally accepted as the gentlest & with a low banking angle. When the banking angle gets to something like 45', it becomes known as a funnel. As the angle approaches 90', it becomes the wall of death or a hurricaine if it's a really big circle. For all these forms, you can use various attitudes as well as piros & reversals. It's all good fun.

Hi all:

I tried doing this on my trex600 seems fine. But when I go to trex700, the speed of the circle is so fast that I can't control. why?

Is it too much pitch or aileron input?

You are likely giving too much pitch if you are getting the speed too high. try reducing the angle (about 30-45deg instead of 70+) and reducing the pitch. On both my n9's and 700 this maneuver can be done with remarkably little pitch. Adding a lot of pitch you can really get these things whipping on a '90.

In general - More pitch = more speed
More aileron = tighter circle.

There is a balance as if you give more pitch and dont increase the angle of the funnel (or reduce the radius with more aileron) then you will climb. Consequently if you reduce the pitch and dont reduce the angle (or increase the radius) you will loose altitude.

FWIW i see a lot of folks who bang this maneuver out w/o actually flying it. Once you get the basic maneuver down where you can hold and correct it then you can practice moving it around.. left , right, larger circle, smaller circle. Then do it in the wind. You will find that you can increase/decrease the angle of the funnel and use more/less pitch to keep the funnel front and center even in a decent amount of wind.

Hi spdntckt:

Thanks for your advise. I try it on today on my trex600 and the funnel went pretty smooth and slow too.

Next will try on my trex700. Really appreciate your input.

With respect to wind.....to keep the funnel centered (in front of you), do you let up on the aileron going into the wind, then add more aileron turning down wind?

My funnels keep drifting on windier days.

hey mate,

your 700N has more power than 600N, so it has a tendency to show every bit of your minor inputs. just start your warm ups by doing lazy and big funnels, as you gain more confidence then make it tighter.

cheers,
Billy
