Ok, I have a hand full of flights now on my machine but I have some questions about the Mini-G settings.

First, I have it set to Model B as recommended. Has anyone attemted to fly on Model A? If so, what where the results?

Next, there is an odd feeling of too much expo around center. I have tried adding a fair bit of both pos and neg expo to try and counter this feeling but have had n luck. What do I do to get rid of this?

Lastly, at the end of a piro, the tail does not stop very hard at all. It continues almost a 1/4 revolution of the piro. Is this from too low a gain setting? I really have been easy on the machine until today and the tail holds very well in flips, rolls, and tail slides.

Am I missing something? I think this Gyro has loads of potential and I just want to get the most out of it.

Servo is 9257. Set-up with G-View. I have done everything according to the manual, servo is square with the push rod and the whole nine.

I just setup the Mini g on a friends Protos.

To get rid of the soft expo feel around the middle you want to go into the parameter menu (using the g-view) and change the Expo from "EXPO 40" down to "EXPO 20". I set the default to "EXPO 40" because I really liked it that way. It seems to be the general response that people do not like it there. Most people prefer it at 20. Future Mini Gs will come with the expo defaulted at 20.

I also found the best tail performance with a servo arm length of 11mm (10.5 on a futaba arm). The other issue I found on the protos is the tail control arm tended to flex a lot. With the stock ball on the tail control arm it tended to increase the flexing. So I actually put a Rave shorter ball and link on the arm to get it closer so it would not flex as much. Not that everyone wants to do this, but I would do whatever you can to reduce the flexing on the tail control.

I used the Model B settings and did not change anything other than the "EXPO". Unfortunately I do not remember the gain setting we had it set at. But it was relatively high.

Also as a general note, if the tail tends to start up slow and then seem to speed up, or kind of stop slowly, that can be bearings binding in the tail. Although the protos we flew did not have that issue.

I hope this helps,

Curtis

Did you have to use a ifferent link on the tail to use the Rave ball on the tail pitch arm?

Curtis,

Do you still need to set the expo on the Mini-G in your radio as well? I have been flying Solid-G's and recall your recommendations to set the expo to 40% - 50%. Does this new "expo" parameter replace that? Thanks.

I just used the Rave ball and link since that is what I had. The Protos balls and links are a different size than normal. So if you change the ball type you also have to change the link as well. I would have used the Protos ball if I could have made it shorter and closer to the plastic arm, but I did not have the parts. So I just used the Rave ball and link.

On the Mini G, once you turn down the Expo from 40 to 20, it is still not as fast around center as the Solid G but it is closer. So you certainly can run some expo in the radio as well to get the feel you like.

But, turning the Mini G expo down also makes the control more linear throughout the whole range, so it is similar but a little different than just the radio expo.

Today I turned down the Expo in the gyro from 40 to 20% on my Vibe 50 and it feels much better..I am really liking the way the Mini G feels..It feels very close to my Solid-G..The Mini-G doesn't need to much expo on the tail in the radio..

Today's update...

Well, dropped the expo down to 20 with the G-view and upped to +30 on the radio. I am pleased to say I am very happy with the results as far as piro start, stop and overall feel.

As far as the gain goes, in the flip axis the tail holds very well. Tail slides are very nice and hold strong as well. On stationary rolls the tail chatters a fair bit but still pretty much holds. FFF no chatter, FFF rolls no chatter either. I was starting to feel a little more comfy with the machine so I pulled her into a hurricane. Again, the tail seemed to hold well but there is also a fair bit of chatter.

I am going to look around and see what I can do about this. I really feel this machine has a tonne of potential and loads of power. I just want to get the most out of it.

Thanks for all the help so far.

One other thing I found on me friends Protos is the plastic ends on the boom supports tend to loosen up after a little bit of flying. You may want to re-tighten the boom support ends on the machine periodically. I re-tightened them twice on my friends machine over about 4 flights. Then they seemed to stay tight. I think the plastic is just crushing a little then staying in place.

Does anyone know if an upgraded pitch arm is available? Ifnot is there any way to stiffen up the stock piece?

Yes, I used the stock rod.

Long term the right fix would be some kind of upgrade for the tail arm. It does work the way it is, just would be better if it was stiffer.

I agree with Curtis that the tail pitch link is more flexible than you would think and the overall operation of the tail is limited by this. The tail still works ok, but it could be better. Hopefully we will see an improved part in the future.

Also make sure you are using the 3k blades as I initially didn't. The 3k blades are far better.

You want to use the stiffest tailblades you can get as anything else will depitch in flight.

I've read mixed reviews on the KBB blades on a Protos. Some say they are good and some say they are crap. Seems alot of people are cutting them down to match the stock size.
