Raven 50
For anyone thinking of installing a Thunder Tiger Redline 53 DON'T
Unless you're ready for some real serious power
Man this engine is insane
I gave it a full stick pump in normal mode and
I just about $hit myself I have never seen a heli take off like that the noise from the blades made take a couple steps back.

I have seen the OS50 in action and thought it has some power and although I have never owned 1 I have tried it on a Trex 600N but it has nothing on the new TT RL53
This Engine is just freaking amazing

I'll post some pics of my set-up later

sweet, thanks for the info. does it drop right in with the silent power muffler and stock engine mount/fan shroud?

i flew a friends 600N with a redline with an Align pipe...and to be honest, i couldnt feel any difference in power compaired to the YS50 in my Raven with a silent power muffler...

they both climb out and maintain rpm under load very well.

The grey counter gear

Don't know what to say
I was a little skeptical at first too but this engine is scary strong
or maybe it is a combo of my set-up and this engine
Took me about 5 tanks to dial it in though
fast idle the first tank
hovered the second
started leaning it out on the third till it started getting hot then backed off about 3-4 clicks on the main
Today on the 4&5th tank I started cranking on the throttle
I kinda accidently gave it full throttle in normal mode not expecting it to take off the way it did, I almost crapped myself it was that scary
Some pics aren't the best quality sorry
this install uses the Hawk lower frames the only mod needed was drilling a hole to access the lower exhaust bolt nothing else had to be done to the frame

you may just not be used to the extra power, this is your first 50 engine isnt it?

it looks good though. let us know if you have any troubles with it.

are you using some sort of governor/limiter with this one?

Ya it's my first
All 3 heli's are governed by GV-1
the 3rd is 65% completed and the 2 in the pics are 98% ready still have some tweaking.
The Raven is running on 6V with a step down to the tail servo

I disassembled the engine right out of the box, So I could do a lttle preventative maintenance by applying a special lubricant to the bearings and also because I'm just too damn curious

Sounds like your getting some nice setups

you really dont need to do that to the motor out of the box. they already come pre-packed with a coating of oil for long term storage. and any of that lubricant you put in it will be blown out the pipe as soon as you run it for the first time.

I definatley agree that ordinary oil would get blownout "washed out"

But this lubricant I'm sure is still in there
I used it in my OS37 last season and there was still some in there when I opened it this year to replace the piston ring.It is very very sticky and I use it in all my heli bearings

I have been using this product in my cars for over 10 years now.
I use half a bottle per oil change

Get some and see for yourself

are you sure the "slick" feeling is not from the oil in the fuel itself? once the alcohol and nitro evaporate, there will just be an oil residue left behind.

but anyways, i just use automatic tranny fluid to protect the engine for long term storage. if your running the engine on a regular basis you really dont need it.

i also shut down my engines by clamping the fuel line. this starves the engine and burns every last drop of fuel. this not only makes it easier to start the next time, but it makes sure there is no alcohol to absorb water and corrode the motor.

unless the oil residue is also sticky

As I was saying this stuff is very tacky kinda like oily glue
I won't try to convince you that it is some sort of miracle oil

I have seen the results for myself and I like what I see.
