Hi All
For me Rave's landing gear was an issue. Not strenght enough. Not expensive ok, but I doesn't want to put my money in.
So I made a mod: I adapt a Gorilla Gear Low Profile on my Rave
It's excellent And I add an angle to up the tail, so the vertical fin is at 7 cm of the floor now Good for bevel gears
And it looks good on my Yellow and Blue Canopies, like during flights

Nice mod but it looks lower. Good idea on the tail.

Yes it's a little bit lower than the stock one, and because there is a angle, tail is higher.... but canopy lower. It's not a big problem for now, because I was searching to protect by the way bevel gears from striping. I'll see in future if canopy can be damaged by this low height, and perhaps add washers on the front gear. But I don't thinkit will be necessary. Today I made good flights, and tail was really nicely protected from grass.. On the floor like in the air, it looks like the original, angle is not very visible. It's an happy mod For fixation, I used some pieces of a broken stock landing gear that I cutted with my dremel.

I am now on like flight 20 of my rave and have probably landed 50 times on concrete and all other times have been on a board in grass, and I never had any issue with the landing skids.

To protect the bevel gears, maybe you could use stock skids and raise the tail a little. But you did mention that you had issues with the stock skids. Do you slam the heli down? I always land with very low HS and smooth. Maybe that is why I did not break any. The mod looks pretty cool. Very good job. I thought about the same. I am not so sure though I would like the lower look.

I wish the stock skids were longer towards the back and round so I could put skid stops on. I like skid stops. I also wish they came out with some neon skids. I do like the white, but prefer the color of the yellow gorillas.

Good work bro

Thanks Carbon
I'm always learning heli I've got perhaps 70/80 flights on CP (~100 on FP). I made some things in the air like fast flying, loops, rolls, tics tocs, inverted hovering..., but my landings are sometimes a litle bit too hard  It's perhaps because I've flown gliders during years and years, so I was more at ease with fast flyingand large aerobatics than hovering the heli (I love the way an heli can go fast and use the sky like a glider). So I didn't work enough this basis of heli flying, which is hovering in all contexts and all other basics, since I began. I have to work hard, and perhaps when I'll be more confident, I'll switch back to the stock landing gear which I like too. So I made this mod for a very personal issue. The Rave is not a beginner heli for sure. But I haven't got any problem to fly it. And I progress on smooth landings, I'm more consistent like a Mini-G
It's more for take off from grass I've done that(gears, Radix tail blades), because my flying spots are full of TT ennemies : ) For landing, I almost always made a small autorotation, or land in normal (low HS), thro hold, then up the tail with cyclics like a biker : ) So TT is protected.
About lower look, I was not sure too  Like for the angle. But now I find it's sexy and aggressive : ) Like a tiger ready to attack : ) Low like a Yellow Lamborguini : ) And it's always possible to add the same washers (carbon rods to frame sides ones) on front gear to have exactly the stock landing gear height and no angle. Sure neon stock LG will be a nice add to the Rave )
I like skid stops too, I'll buy these ones and use the yellows (yellow canopy is fantastic in flight, as good if not better in visibility than the stock orange, and it looks simply beautiful on the field)

What is the original purpose of changing landing gear??
To have more clearance from floor to tail blades??

If so I just used a heat gun and bent the Rave rear landing gear and I now have more clearance

Gorilla gear take a lot of abuse without breaking as easily. Way back when many heli shops would not carry them because it hurt sales of replacement gear.... probably one of the more lucrative parts along with tail booms because of the shear numbers sold I'm guessing.

Yep I agree with you Howtool : )
The original purpose was: stop breaking landing gears >> I broke 5!!
Two in crashes, one on stupid -12° thro hold from 50 cm , one on a cutoff from 2 m high, one on a spoolup during flight from 2m high >> the 2 last ones weren't so hard and I was really surprised LG broked... In similar contexts, my 3DX450 LG might be only bent...
So I wanted a virtually unbreakable LG and stop spending money in that.
After that came the idea to add an angle to protect TT gears and Radix tail blades from hard grass and stones. Now tail is really upped.
With this + take off from wood board on very bad spots + landing in autos from 1 M or so, my TT gears are happy now : ))
When I'll increase my level and have success in all my landings, I'll perhaps switch back to stock LG or reduce angle

We found in development that if the gear broke away relativly easilly it generaly saved the frames in even the worst of crashes. If the gear are so strong they pass the stike onto the frames they can break. There is a reason the stock gear is the way it is, and as cheap as it is. The frames are much more expensive and far more difficult to change.

Yep Brian I know it's the reason. But for my skills I don't want to spend money again and again on stock LG when I make a bad landing/autos/stupid panic mistake. So I decided to make this mod. And because Gorilla gear is made with soft plastic, it does absorb a lot of the shock too... but without break. But.... I prefer the way stock LG looks. So, in future I will certainly swith back to the stock. For now I'm happy with my mod. Very personal issue like I said, I see nobody else has it. I think all pilots here are really much much much better than me, so I feel it's normal. But it's interesting to have intermediate level pilot feedbacks too, isn't it??

sounds like to me instead of learning to fly , you should first learn how to land properly first.....lol

I know it's funny My friends laugh on me a lot about this "Hey your flights are nice, but your landings are sometimes a little bit on the noob side" ... don't know if my french thought is really funny translated to english... ...

Nobody here like my mod
I'm forced to agree I must work on my landings, but hey I buyied it..... I use it!! And when I'll switch back to the stock one it will mean that I'll make good progress. It make sense for me

If it is a modification that helps you keep your heli together, I like it.

I just happen to favor the look of the stock ones. Also, better visibility against a dark background while I try to learn to fly lower and lower below the horizon. I seem to have trouble losing orientation with black skids.

I have found that sometimes if you boil your plastic skids (tried on other heli's) that they become more impact friendly at a loss of stiffness. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it will warp your plastic all up and ruin your part. When all else fails, it's worth a shot! Maybe you can test this on an old broken one

I too have always preffered white over black landing gear for some reason. Black has always been easy to loose for some reason for me. However it is one of those things that is to each his own.
