I made a relatively high dollar purchase. Payment cleared a week and a half ago. He said he dropped off the heli at the mailroom on his way to the airport on monday the 16 of march. He did not get a tracking number and I doubt he got insurance. I even paid an additional $20 over the price we agreed.
I have recieved one PM on the 18th from the seller saying he is out of town but he would call the mail room and try to get a tracking number, I havent heard from him since.

My question is, How long should I give before filing a dispute? I am a relatively patient man but with all the scams been going on lately I am a little worried.

PS, I know this stuff has been beat to death but fresh answers never hurt.

I think you waited to long, without a tracking number you don't know if the heli(I hope it's not the case)was even shipped and what makes it even worse it you can't contact the seller. Hopefully it will work out for you.

You know I don't get this mentality that some of these sellers have. If the shoe was reversed they would be screaming bloody murder!! Why if you sell something don't you have some thanks and respect for the buyer who DID YOU A FAVOR in my opinion buying your stuff and give him the quick shipping and a tracking no. Is that too much to ask here????
I also think mis representing what you have for sale is just as bad and we need to band together to stamp this crap out quickly once and for all somehow. Either mentioning who it is and what they did or people nearby banding together and paying the person a visit so they can't hide.

If it was dropped of at a shipping room on the 16TH it probably didn't ship until the 17th that was Tuesday so depending on how he shipped it I would wait until the time specified by the shipping type IE: first class mail is 5-7 days partial post is 7-9 days.

As for the payment having cleared 1.5 weeks ago that is unreasonable and the shipper should have shipped ASAP after funds cleared. If you cant get a hold of shipper or package/shipping # I would start a dispute.

I would like to pose a couple of questions:

Where is the package coming from?

Is the person you are dealing with with good reputation?

Do you have a telephone number of the seller?

What type of shipment arrangements were made (USPS, FedEx, UPS)?

I agree that there have, as of late, been some screwy deals on RR but there also have been some "quick" shots at sellers that weren't warranted. Patence is the key as well as constant communication between both parties.

Best of luck to you.

Its coming from georgia
His feedback is all good
I do have his number but he hasnt returned a call since payment cleared.

in his defense, he did say he went out of town for family matters. But he did say it shipped on the 16th. I think I will wait until wednesday to file a claim. But thats it.

+1

a dispute is easy to close so there is no reason to wait.
bad feedback and dragging someone through the mud is harder to fix.
It is ridiculous to wait more than a week for an item to ship.
its also poor etiquette not to give buyer tracking info.

IMHO and experience with living out here in Hawaii. Most of my stuff and guys I dealtwith here on RR is on the east coast and I can honestly say no more than 4 days to reach me. Thats USPS priority mail but parcel post is another story 3 to 4 weeks to reach Hawaii and the risk of things getting lost is very high. Just to give you and idea. I would really be concern about what method of shipping he did use or if he even shipped the item.

Thats the part that worries me. Just dropping it off at the mail room is no indication of shipping method. If it is USPS parcel post, no telling how long it will take. And with no tracking number given, there is no way for me to backtrack its location. I am almost sure he shipped it, its just the method and lack of tracking info thats troubles me.

Is it a Heli? Alot of guys just freak when they see the final shipping cost priorty mail and use parcel post as an alternate. The crappy thing with parcel post it stops over somewhere and just sits there for awhile. Best of luck.

I personally would be patient a little longer and probably wait til next Wednesday before I filed a dispute. If his feedback is good, I doubt he would jeopardize it even though times are tough. Hold in there.

I waited 4 months to get my new radio. Should have taken 10 days or so....trouble was that the postal service thought better and sent it surface freight.

The company I bought the radio from has a good name, so no dispute there....just wondered if some thug had my radio sitting somewhere after a postal theft.

Got it eventually though.

No freight number? hmmmm....well wait a few days and see what happens.

I know what its like, there are folk out there who rely on trust so as they can steal from you....but I like to think that while this happens that its a minority thing.

I hear whats said about doing the buyer a good service, but I guess some folk are quite lazy or just dont think. Hope it works out for you anyway

Quality takes........time!

If he sent it parcel post, you can expect up to 2 weeks. I've sent packages through USPS parcel post and the typical time it takes to get to its' destination is around 10-14 days depending on the size of the package.

If he did send it through the US Post Office, a tracking number wouldn't give you a date of delivery either, they are useless for tracking.

Closing this thread now.

I have heard from him and understand the situation much better. Even if the mailroom hasnt shipped it yet I am comfortable knowing he will do everything possible to get it to me.
He is out of town with family emergencies.

In the grand scheme of things waiting for a heli is really no big deal. A little communication goes a LONG way.
