I was at a club auction and i bought a July 1999 copy of Model Helicopter World just for to compare prices of stuff 10 years ago. I came across adverts in it of model shops advertising a Irvine 53 Helicopter engine with the price on application.
Did any of you ever hear of a Irvine 53 Helicopter engine as i certinatly havent. Yes the irvine 53 aero engine is very popular here but im just curious.

If it doesnt move and its meant too... use WD 40. If it moves and its not meant too...use duct tape!

It never made it into production . It was said that Irvine were not happy with the carb . I think that as they distribute OS engines , it is more likely that they thought that the Irvine 53 would only take sales away from OS sales so it wasn't worth doing . Lets face it , the carb on the Irvine 36H worked fine , so they knew that they could make a good carb , or , as they imported OS , they could have fitted an OS carb .

If it had have come onto the market , I would have had one . I had even contemplated making a heatsink for the standard aero head , and giving it a go . However , as Irvine are now made by OS , they don't have a true ABC piston and liner , and I don't think that they are as good as the original Irvine built engines , so I doubt that I'll ever do it .

At the end of the day , it gets dark .

Thats excatly what i was thinking as i have 3 of the aero versions and they are a mighty engine. The last one i bought has the O.S carb as its supposed to be made by irvine to the O.S specifcations .

Although OS do make great carbs , I always found the Irvine Jetstream carb to be absolutely superb , and , at least for me , changing the carb contributed to the Irvine sort of losing its identity .
I also wonder what carbs are now fitted to Laser engines ?
