you dont have to remove it but it would make it alot easier if you did.The easiest way to remove the tank it to remove the 2 rear skid bolts and spread the frame at the bottom. Be careful not to stress the nubs on the tank that hold it in place butthe tank should slip right out if spread far enough.

Start by removing the rear landing strut.
I think thats about all you need to do.

At the nubs?

Sand the frames to knock the sharp edges off that channel where those nubs slide in and around the tank area.

you may want to read this entire page, specifically the note on the tank that this link will drop you on

http://www.raptortechnique.com/crashrepair.htm#tank

I put some clear silicone RTV in the frame holes where the nubs go to help prevent the frames from cutting into the tank.

Also for removing the tank I find it helps to loosen the frame screws a couple of turns right above the tank along with removing one of the rear landing skid attachments (no need to remove both).

I always loosen the motor mounts on one side (and the skid screw on the same side), which gives a generous amount of flex to the frame. Tank then falls right out the back.
