How I fitted a new 12x 2.4 aerial first remove the back cover
Carefully with part of credit card or such like lift and slide around
The rim and it should lift mine came up easy but be cureful
Put your radio on a soft cushion or pillow to protect your switches
also remove battery

Next lift cover off to reveal i/c there is a black button which is loos remove this and put to one side with cover battery

The aerial plug has goop or silicone around it I carefully cut around it with a sharp blade being carful for the odious reason then put a small screwdriver underneath the wire side and prised it off that’s the part where my heart stopped beating for ticks it did lift of thank god

Clean off all the silicone off ready for new aerial plug
now you have to undo the 4 hex bolts on top of the radio two black and two chrome take out the bolts and slide the mount out towards the back as far as it will go there will be a little resistance then pull the back up and it will come off the aerial wire will feed through a hole in the circuit

you can now undew the aerial from the mount and fit the new aerial .
the new aerial comes with some parts that are not needed i think it fits the 9x2 english 9303 us radio as well

below are the parts that are not needed fot the 12x

Now the parts are removed fit the new aerial to the mount and
Refit to the radio feed the wire though the hole in the circuit refit 4 bolts on top refit aerial plug and some silicone to make sure it stays put refit the black butten and the cover fit battery and test

New aerial on top
The hardest parts removing the silicone and lifting the aerial plug
Off

i have problems with spelling

Good job on the replacement, now try not to break your aerial off again.

Take Care,
Cheers, Patrick

It does that with all 2.4GHz aerials, from JR, Spektrum, Futaba and Sanwa/Airtronics. I would put a piece of black shrink wrap around the base where it cracks just to give it a little more protection.

Perfect!!

Perfect fix!!

There was no silicone added at my 12x...so I could do the whole fix within 10 minutes

Many thanks to trickytiker!!!!!

By the way: Bought the radio NIB in the US and got it delivered to europe with broken antenna...
Sending back from europe was too expensive and complicated because of customs...now it is like new again

A great post Trickytiker,
I was going to do the same, but you've beaten me to it. Just replace my antenna after breaking the joint.
Mike.

Anyone got an antenna source in the US? After yesterday, my antenna now has three zip ties around it...

Thanks,

I'm sure you can get one from Horizon Hobby. I would give them a call and ask. 1-800-338-4639

My understanding is that Horizon will not sell radio parts like that, but rather request you send the whole radio in to them. I really, REALLY don't want to be without my radio for a month (which is their current turnaround time due to the DX6i recall). Plus: I'm also not too interested in telling them that I'm gonna do this myself with the warranty implications.

Any other options?

I'll give Horizon a call anyway....

Thanks,
-Drew
