I've dyed a lot of canopies but remember a few guy's have dyed their struts : I also remember some thing about the shift in color's.

Orange = Yellow ect.

Any one remember the recipe ?? I've always use the powder and a touch of salt.

I got plenty of them / thought - I'd make a mess in the kitchen

Purple = Blue ????

GreyEagle-
I do know that Fullpitch here on RR (my brother in law) did dye his white factory Raptor landing skids along with his vertical stabilizer. He used the Rit type dye packets purchased from a local Walmart.
Now, to be sure it "dyed" solid black he used the all the dye packets and let them soak in smokin' hot boiling hot water...(not water heater hot)
It worked! We did the scratch test and the flex test and it was solid black! Now I have nothing to offer on other colors but let it rip with the dye packets, use the smallest amount of water needed and make sure it's boiling hot water.. Seems to work!

I work in injection molding and can tell you that you wont get true coolr changes since the plastic being dyed was formed around 500 degrees. Always go with a virgin color (white) for the best reslts. Heating the plactic is good for the color part but you must realize that you change the moleculare structure of the plastic which distorts it or makes it weak. Just be careful. I would hate to hear of a crash caused by that.

The longer you let it sit in the Rit dye the darker it gets.So keep
checking it till you get the color you want then wash it in cool water
and let it dry.Black works well but some parts haft to sit in longer,I
had to let my skids sit in there for 3 days befor they were totaly
black.So if you want them lighter then less time in the dye.

I dyed the skids black on the raptor a while back. It still looks good, but the cool power has added a slight pink tint to them. You only notice it in the sunlight. Here is a picture taken after the dying process. I'll try to get back with a pic of them now.
