Yesterday i have some some test.
In hovering temp was 70C.
ambient temp was 0C.
Electric fan working fine!!!
For full control temp. motor and rpm brushless motor i plan to buy this product. http://www.eagletreesystems.com/Plane/Seagull/4.htm

cool idea, but sometimes I think a mechanical fan is just the simple way to do things and may be the best choice.
If the engine is running the cooling fan is running.. If the engine is not running it does not matter...

There is a less than scientific principle that fits in this discussion. It is called the K.I.S.S. principle..

What kind of flybarless head are you using?

Keep it simple stupid.

On that principle, hands up,who is still driving a model T Ford ,people will be flying electric heli,s next, what if the motor just packs up while your inverted, all these things could happen.

water or air cooled, for simplicity i would always take air, for efficiency and cooling capability, always liquid. That Zenoah engine looks sweeeet...

Jrockstuart..

THe latest RC Heli mag has how to modify a TREX 500 head. I would bet we could follow the same principles and modify any head to work flybarless with only a couple spare parts..

Isn't it as basic as a grip arm that runs to center to avoid any delta and the washout base used as a swash driver? Spectra grip arms must be close anyway. What I don't understand is the values required for leading or following those grips?

(and apologies that this is off-topic for this thread)

I have tried to make a couple of flybarless heads for my Trex 450 with varying levels of success. The main thing I learned is that you need to have the balls on the blade grips far enough away from the centerline so that your swash doesn't have too much mechanical advantage on the blade grips. In the picture, the control rods go from the swash to the blade grips almost parallel, and they should be more in a "V" shape because the resolution of the servo is not enough to overcome the mechanical advantage that this linkage provides. It is like having the servo output arm on the farthest out hole, and the linkage arm on the closest hole--even if the servo is 2048 resolution, the control surface still moves in steps. This makes the flybarless heli bounce around even if everything on the V-bar is set up correctly.

The washout base can be used as a swash driver if the ends of the mixing arms are cut off, so long as there is not interaction between the pivots on the mixing arms and the control arm links. It looks like this is what he did.

Doug, I would like to see that magazine issue. You're flying out of McKinney, right?

I'm in Allen, so that makes us neighbors. Are you building anything flybarless, Doug?

Pgkevet, are you going to convert your Spectra to flybarless? I know that Eury did it last year.

Andrei_S, do you by chance have the V-bar file you are using on the Spectra? I'm curious to see the settings you have used. I certainly admire you for making such extensive modifications. What is the metal cylinder on your heli where the mechanical fan used to be? Is that the center out of the stock fan?

i use vbar with default setting.
Spectra was too sharp for me, but hovering very very stable.
On foto you see spectra coupling without fan.

Hi Andrei

Do you find less engine vibration without the mechanical fan?
