What a jerk!!
This is a quote from his website.
We don't have the vibration problems of remote control helicopters (and we don't drop out of the sky like a runaway chain saw), and blimps and masts are much cheaper to operate than helicopters and airplanes. Our systems are commercial, professional equipment that are used daily throughout the world. There are very few competitors in this field, please evaluate all your options before making a decision. We are confident you will find us easy to work with, easy to understand, very helpful before, during and after your purchase, and we are the most knowledgeable about how to make a business out of providing aerial photography services.

Yes, terrible guy.
But if you check out his camera mount designs, they are pretty good. e.g. He's camera zoom system is innovative and (most importantly) *simple*.
Thanks for the link.

Hard job competing with gravity.

Remember back when; just got your first helium balloon at the fair.

You hold on to that string tight, but one time you forget, it slips away into the sky lost $$$

Well, now. Another flavor in the pantry...but does or is he cognizant of airspace restrictions, obstructions and he states his systems are maintenance-free? Common jeeze, sounds like a weak sales position - bash the comptetion ",'cause I can fly helis". Oh well, has anyone seen how he handles 20mph gusts near buildings or trees?

Not a sermon, just a thought...

Up, up and away!

In advertising I understand that a person wants to make their product look good, but to make outright lies and accustations about a product I doubt he has any experiance with....
There are remote control helicopters, they do a great job shooting live video scenes, but they aren't very good at commercial photography. When they crash, and they always do, they tend to cause a lot of damage, they make a tremendous amount of noise, are impossible to fly, people in the area are constantly calling the FAA to complain about them, the images are blurry from the massive vibration and who wants to deal with fuel, oil, and maintenance?

Which is worse, ignorance or apathy? I don't know and I don't care!

Ever think what could happen if your tether got loose and your blimp got into the air traffic lanes? Who would you call? What could they do? I seriously looked into using a blimp, but the tethering seems to be a serious challenge.

Or what if your SLR decides to fall off from that height?

He cites Southern Balloon Works, but I take it he is not part of their company? Seems awfully rude to bash the heli guys. Also really pointless. Sell your stuff on it's own merits, perhaps cite the "challenges" which is a legit sales point.

Look at the first arial in the gallery section. Not even cropped square, bad exposure. Not the best shot to promote your capability.

keepin' it real

I've been doing this for five years. I've never had a crash, my machine isn't noisy, nobody has ever called the FAA or complained about me, my images aren't blurry, and I don't deal with fuel/oil.

Where does his statement put me?

Ultimatley here in Canada even a blimp falls under Transport Canada as soon as it's used for commercial purposes, IE; a camera hung under it.
I watched a guy here in Vancouver just off Broadway and cambie shooting with his blimp and he had his foot on the rope as he was looking into his downlink shroud. granted at that location a heli was a no-no.
