After all this is programmed what do I need to do on my DX7 transmitter to make Castle 85 work correctly??? I will be using this esc on a Trex 600esp if helps with programming.
Thanks

I have the same DX7:HV85 setup on a couple of my models using the gov. The gov mode is set to recognize three different levels, 0-50%, 51%-99% 99%-100% (or something very similar to those numbers) All my throttle curves are flat lines and set for each of the fligth modes as follows:

Normal = 40%
Idle 1 = 60%
Idle 2 = 100%

I chose the 40% and 60% just because it gives me some wiggle room in case my end points aren't exactly perfect.

Castle ESC..

Here's what I am using on mine...

"Gov High"

Input the gear ratio etc...and desired headspeed pole count etc..

Then I found that I used "custom" for governor gain and use a value of 11...medium is "14" and it was creating a slight fast wag on both my trex 500 and logo 10(spinning 550's)

after dropping to 11 on the gain it was fine...

I use medium throttle response etc...

When you input your desired headspeed the Program will tell you what value to set your governed "flat" curves at...in normal you make the low throttle ZERO and every point after that a flat value...at whatever value gives you the headspeed you want...

as for the radio...that's all you need to do is set your throttle "HIGH" ATV to 150 and put the collective all the way up and initialize the esc...slowly lower the ATV from 150 down towards 0...at some point around 95-105...you will hear some tones...that means your high limit is set...

for the low limit...you need to start at 50% ATV on the "low" and work up towards 100...usually you will hear a tone at 90-100 as well...then you will hear the ESC initialize...and you're all set to fly..

Jag,

Are your instructions the same if setting up governor for an HV85 with ver 1.55 of the programming firmware?

Thanks.

Can the HV85 be setup using the transmitter or do you need that link thing? I wont be using governor.

Richard,

I believe most parameters of the HV85 can be set with the TX but I'd recommend getting the Castle Link programmer if you can since it's going to be much easier to change settings to your liking.

I too just bought an HV 85 with 1.56 firmware update. I have a couple of questions:

1) How do you find the pole count? I have a Monster Power 60 (400kv) motor, couldn't find any info on pole count.

2) When the ESC is powered up, I hear initialization tone (armed) but I don't hear the cell count beep. What's wrong?

3) It went through the firmware update but shows 1.56, not 2.0.

It does work and I've had 2 successful flights on it.

thanks,

Pat L

Yo Pat!

1) Count the magnets around the can. They should be be north-south-north-south in this case each magnet is a pole in this case 4 poles. Some motors have magnets paired up north-north-south-south-north-north-south-south which each pair makes a pole, so even though there are eight magnets it's only 4 poles.

2) I would update the firmware first and then check for the auto cell count as there might be an update for the ESC in the newest firmware.

3) To get firmware 2.0 you need to go to Castle's website and download the newest firmware(3.12), it will not update itself like prior firmware. Then you will need to hook up the Phoenixlink and update the ESC.

Some of the programming features are only available using the Phoenix Link. I beleive what you are looking for is one of them (it's been awhile since I've stick programmed an ESC). There are actually two different settings that affect what you're doing, Motor Start Power and Spool Up Speed both of which are programmable with the Phoenix Link. If you don't have a Link I stongly recommend you buying one, you'll wonder why you ever programmed an ESC any other way!

Motor Start Power sounds like the one as the actual spool up after the motor has kicked in is fine.
