Funny, I poked around in the TZ forums last night out of curiosity and came away laughing. Theres a certain poster that has been touting the Frenzy as the best deal because it cheaper than the Pantera (we all know who he is) but did you ever stop to think that the difference in price is a measly 40 bucks? Look at all the teething problems with the Frenzy, some of which are not easily remedied due probably to the choice of build materials. $40 bucks? Man, I'd spend the extra 40 on the Pantera that has a time tested, thoroughly engineered design any day. Hell, I spend that much in beer every week. Now JB has sweetened the pot further with his new "stimulus" plan by getting a second heli for 1/2 off. I don't even need a calculator to figure this one out.

Now we all just need to talk JB into running it for more than 2 weeks. Kind of hard to come up with the funds fast enough to get a extra pair of birds.

Ok boys and girls, I did it. I ordered 2 Panteras not 5 minutes ago. Spoke to John himself. I'm excited!!!! I may have to sleep in the dog house for a week or 2 but hey, sacrifices have to be made. . Geez, two brand new quality helis for 300 bucks?! No brainer man. I would have regretted this big time if I missed this sale. It's a good thing I didn't get that really expensive Frenzy at $219.00, and thats only for one heli even. .Now all I gotta do is bug my buddy into selling me his OS91 cheap to stuff under the hood. . Thanks for the SCREAMING great deal John!

Well, I'll be building the Pantera soon than I thought. I just plowed my Raptor 50 into the dirt today. Dang it! Broke a whole bunch of sh&% plus cracked the material around the muffler exhaust port. I still may be able to use the OS50, we'll see. I think I had a link fairure. Did a big loop and had zero elevator control at the bottom half of the loop. The forward link to the swash from the elevator tray was a tad loose and the ball end was gone upon post crash inspection. Geez, broke a bunch of stuff, now I hope the motor is ok. I'll stuff everything into the Pantera. All the Futaba servos survived with no stripped gears, wow. What do you guys think? Still ok to use the motor?

Assuming everything else is okay, looks like there's still enough face to seal to me. It's certainly worth a try, then see if it's leaking.

Gasket

Looks like there is enough meat left to seal. I would recommend using a gasket to ensure a complete seal. Just cut one out of an aluminum soda or beer can. It's soft enough to squash when you bolt it together. Use the muffler seat as a template and don't forget to make the bolt holes just a little bit bigger than the bolt so that the bolt wont drag it out of place as you tighten it.

Thanks for the tips guys. I was hoping I did trash this fairly new 50. I think I'll put everything in the Pantera instead of rebuilding the Raptor for now.

tail grip spacer washer question

on step 17 p 31 of the manual there is an exploded view of the tail grip showing a spacer washer between the thrust bearing and the lock nut

the radial bearing is missing in the drawing

on the other hand on page 59 the drawing show a spacer washer between the thrust bearing and the radial bearing i don't have the spacer washer and i believe that is mandatory to installed it

there is no indication of the size of the spacer washer
if someone know the size of the washer please fell free to tell me
thanks

Yaahooo!!!!! Got the two kits in today. Wow, all the way from Florida in 3 days. Hell, it takes the post office 2 days from the next island at times, go figure. Now I have a project to do while the weather is lousy. Thanks for the great service JB.

I think there is a place in the world for both the Pantera and the Frenzy. They are very different helis and I now have both. I'm just beginning Frenzy assembling.

Frenzy & Pantera good

I looked closely @ Pantera last year. Nice machine. That said, I just bought two Frenzy II's. The machine built well and has great machining. As for engineering, they copied the best. No I cannot install a .60 yet, but then again if I wanted a .60 I would have bought another one for the fleet. Right now BOTH machines are great. I'm sad that I could have saved $100, but then I would not have two beautiful metal machines. Is that a dealbreaker? Nope. But I am still happy with what I have.

If you don't like Frenzy because it's a bunch of copied parts, that's life. No patent, no protection. It goes for heli designs as it does for my work designs.

If I am not mistaken

A hyper 50 has more power than a 60, correct?

From older Tower Hobbies books (2006)

OS 61SX-H 2.1 at 16,000 and 21.2 oz.
OS 61SX-WC 2.2 at 16,000 and 21.2 oz.
OS 50SX-H 1.8 at 17,000 and 14.6 oz.
OS 50SX-H Hyper 1.9 at 17,000 and 14.3 oz.
OS 91VR-DF 4.8 at 22,000 and 23.4 oz.

I do not have any spces. on the YS. If you can get ahold of a good shape 61 grab it.

I think it would be more accurate to say a hyper 50 powered 50 would have better power to weight than a 61 powered 60 heli. Straight out the 61 makes little more power but debatable if it overcomes it's own additional weight.

Don't forget the O.S. 70

SPECS: Displacement: 11.50cc (.702cu in)
Bore: 25.8mm (1.016in) Stroke: 22.0mm (.866"
Power Output: 2.5HP at 16,000 RPM Weight: 553.5g (19.5oz)
Practical RPM Range: 2,000 - 18,000 RPM

This engine is a nice match for the Pantera. Having said that I am at 6200'msl so it really probably gives me 50 performace. Nonetheless the power to weight and the personality suit the Pantera well for me.
