I have been thinking about the tail servo being on the boom and nitro residue.have any of you guys ever done anything to try to "nitro proof" a tail servo

I had a few thoughts

1)some rtv gasket sealer ,a thin bead around any seams and maybe a small O ring on the output shaft,in between the servo arm and case.I was thinking an O ring thats lubed would provide little if any drag and seal it up nicely.

2)how about buying a case for, or a burned out boat servo, thats water proof and swap out the insides from ,say my 9254,to a waterproof case?

any thoughts positive or negative?

and yes, I know you can move the servo up front, but I dont want to do that as of now.rtv and an O ring would be cheap and really easy.eventually I may.but just throwing this out there

Some of the better quality JR servos have "O" rings at every joint in the case, the output gear, and under every screw head, but oil will eventually get in anyway.

Actually, I've found black electrical tape will keep the oil out better than the "O" rings. It will eventually get under the tape also, but it's a simple matter to clean the servo and replace the tape.

Even simpler to move the servo.

The government cannot give you anything without first taking it from someone else.

i've seen guys use a bead of silicon around the seam...not sure what to do around the output gear though. food for thought: the other day my buddy smashed his Odin, the boom-mounted servo got ripped from the rx, destroying the plug and tearing up the lead wire. my 1st thought after "holy sh!t" and being bummed for the guy was, i'm glad my $140 jr 8900 is protected in the frame. the forward mount is only $35.

Lappster - oh yeah! I'm gona copy tradhunt's.

fenderstrat - I used clear silicon sealant to wrap the upper and lower case. I had more than a hundred flights and probably I used the silicon after some 40 flights. And this 9251 came off from another heli before mounting it on my Knight. But just this week, I got the servo relocation kit to correct my CG.

for a quick cheap fix you might try corrosionx although use on servos seems to be debated. corrosionx is what the float plane guys use on all their electronics, I have no idea how it will hold up to nitro though ... google it and take a look

Ps I have no personal experience with it, just a lot of reading, as I have been thinking I want to build a foam F1 Hydro

Having just had to repair the gears in my 9254 I found it is O ringed at all openings including the output shaft and screws. I've put approximately 30 gallons through the heli and I couldn't see an ingress at all. Are the other Futabas the same.
