How can you tell what your IP address is? or another computer.Want to see if this site works on telling you where it comes from.

Well I clicked on that link and it does show my IP address but the location its coming from is a couple miles off? I think everyone around this area uses the same IP address? Anyway, that was a cool IP address site.

Yup, it's correct and pretty accurate. It reported my correct IP, and within less then half a mile from my house on the Google map.

It got the host IP and name right (I expected that), but the location was about 20 miles off.

Yeah mine said it was in La Grange,that's about 20 miles from me.That's close enough for me.

Mine was about 50 miles off. I do live in a rural area though. Luckily I can at least get 3 meg DSL though.

How do you know what your IP address is?

If you want to find out what your IP address is go to START then click on RUN, type CMD and hit ENTER. When the black DOS screen comes up type IPCONFIG and your IP will come up. That is unless you have a Router and then the IP number your Router has issued your computer will come up. You will have to access your Router to see what your IP service provider's IP address is.

if your ip address tell your location few members say is close enough to your place umm if this info fall in bad hand I think is dangerous right now maybe is not to cool probably!!! I hope someone don't make the things I am thinking about

Which is exactly what a good ISP/Router/firewall should do.

It put me about 50 miles away in the middle of the woods. Unless I'm sitting in a tree right now on a laptop (and not my desk) it's not close at all to me.

FYI your firewall is not what determines location.

Try accessing that site from a secure encrypted government server

If you don't know where you are going any road will take you there.

Or do the same above but use "tracert" without the quotes. Your gateway IP is usually the second hop but not always, it really depends on your network architecture.
