I am considering making the switch to A123 from Lipo, mostly for longevity but also for turnaround time on the charger. My charger will work with A123 so I have that going for me.

I'm currently running 3s 2200mAh 25C on my 450's and 6s 3300-3600mAh 20C on my 550's. What should I be looking at for equivalent performance out of an A123? How will the weight/balance compare?

What else am I forgeting that I should consider?

Thank you in advance for you wisdom!

most chargers will not give you the "real" charge benifit of the A123's although you will see some. I use a mastech Pwr supply at 13 amps, but a lot of guys use 15+, most chargers will charge at 6-10 amps depending on cell count, so check your specs just so you don't get real dissaponted with 20-25 minute charge time instead of 10-15, also the A123's like to be warm or Hot to get 100% of thier potential, so charging at 6-10 amps the cells will actually cool durring charging so you will lack power when flying!
I currently have a 450 with the scorpion 2221-6 motor on 3s and performance is very good, flight times around 5 minutes, much better then with my old jgf 450th and lipo. but shorter flight times, A123's are about 75g each so you can figure weight.
what 550 are you flying? generally you will need to go up 1 or 2 cells from lipo, and/or regear.
on the 450, you will be fine with any charger you have, the 450 sized heli really doesn not require the packs to be warm like a larger heli, i don't see much performane diffrence in warm and cold packs, but in my 500, it hardly flies on a cold pack, but my E620 on 15s HV also doesn't really care if the pack is warm or cold, but at 54v I understand why! but my Hurricane 550 and trex 500 their is a big difference
lastly I am still running the same cells for 2 yrs with no real performace change,i have had 1 or 2 cells I had to change out in 1 or 2 packs though.

Go and listen to the inside heli podcast, Number 49.

All they talk about is charging A123's and what you need to fly a 450 on them.

Why not just up your charge rate?

Flybars. Who needs `em.

Thanks for the input everyone.

Concept1- what are you running for an A123 set up on your Hurricane 550 that's what I'm flying?

While we're on the topic where is a good place to buy A123 cells and are any better than the next?

I sold the 550 last summer and went to a E620, I spent a few months testing different options on the 550 and gave up. i acctually ended up with awesome performance with 4.5 minute flights on 8s A123 with a neu motor. I crashed the heli and it was better to part it out then rebuild, and i got a steal on a E620 which is a much better A123 platform! my hurricane had the Rotorworkz frame which worked very well (just didn't crash well) I had just purchased a Z30 motor to compare with the Neu but never had a chance to test that one, I tried a scorpion, stock, RCP, Neu, tons of pinions etc. over all it is a good heli but the frame and canopy are hard to deal with the A123's, but 8s flew great~
I had been selling recycled dewalt packs for the past yr, but do to first the patent lawsuit and now the downturn in housing, I only get a few packs a month from Dewalt. they have really cut production of them and they are not doing any further testing, their test packs were great, I was able to get them for $80 shipped and they had very few cycles on them. Now I only get returned packs and not many of them are usable. I have been using most of them I have gotten since the first of the year, i do expect more though next month.
