Hi all,

I am just curious but it seems that there are more complaints these days about internet fraud these days. I would hate to believe that this is the new growing trend. Not long ago you could trust your fellow member or ebay sellers. I don't do much purchasing from either site but is this what its coming too. Just a post for thought.

Yes, I'm seeing it more and more, and it's not just here on RR. Sadly I think some of it is a sign of the times bringing out the worst in people, and in some cases just a new avenue for people that are already scamming elsewhere.

I've never been a big fan of buying and selling on line individual to individual, even less so now

YES more complaint but more users as well!
I'm not sure that there is any more scamming percentage wise. there are more and more deals every day as more people use the net. I would like to see some data of sales vs scams I would bet its a pretty stable #.

I have had several thousand deals on EBay since 1997 both selling and buying and only 1 scammer and I was refunded money by paypal.

I have also had about 50 successful deals here on RR. I have had more shipping problems IE: lost and or broken items this is not the seller or buyers fault.

CRASH! GLUE! REPEAT!

I refer to fellow runryder members as a friend. I would never screw a friend in person, why do it here. Hopefully this does not become too popular or else no one will want to buy or sell on here. We need sites like this to help fellow pilots get into the hobby at a reasonable price. I would never take advantage of somebody. It is just wrong.

well everyone wants you to send them the money before they ship....so the person buying has to trust the person selling but not the other way around. I think if the buyer has better feedback he should agree to the sale and get the heli before he sends the money.

In case you haven't noticed, RunRyder is growing daily as more and more people get into this hobby.
Some of them are good guys, some are bad. I think it's a percentage game.

But as RR grows in member volume, so does everything else.
Posts per day increases, More transactions done in the classifieds, etc.
Maybe it is desperate times for many and there is a motive to rip people off now. who knows?

How many people knew that RR grew at an increasing rate until 2006?
I wonder what was the reason for the significant decrease in new members in 2008.

2002___6166 new accounts
2003___8219 new accounts
2004__11302 new accounts
2005__11690 new accounts
2006__13581 new accounts
2007__12686 new accounts
2008___9843 new accounts
2009___8382 new accounts(*projected)

*projected growth based on new members in Jan/ Feb 2009

I don't think anybody will admit it but the recession started at the end of 2006.
That is when the housing bubble broke anyway.

I started thinking about this a couple weeks ago. With some of the new rules Ebay made, an the like, more people are finding it easier to scam. I also think with the economy and the current unemployment rate more people are looking at scamming for funds. What ever the reasons it still dose not make it right.

I did an EVO50 like this a while back. The guy was new and wanted to sell so I offered to inspect and mail the cash after getting the heli. He agreed and the deal went well. I offered to ship it back immediately if I didn't want the heli and gave him a list of other RR members he could use to check me out.

more scammers..... desperate times call for disparate measures i guess.

ive seen guys blow their name and feedback lately over a couple hundred bucks. its crazy. but for the most part, most guys are on the up and up.

i just got some 2500 mAh 6s packs from a guy, he had them listed, and at the time had zero feedback. he shipped em first, and i payed later.

deal went through awesome. now he's got multiple + feedbacks and is on his way to be an awesome seller.

just have to be careful nowadays.

thats what im talking about. ship first, let me inspect the stuff, and if its what is described, they get paid in minutes. sounds like a winner in my book. plus, some of us have too many others that would vouch for us and if we didnt pay, i know id get my a$$ beat at the field.

Hmmm...ship first, inspect, then pay. I'd vote for that.

I've read some horror stories of deals-gone-bad from buyers paying upfront and not getting their package.

Has anyone heard of someone sending his stuff first and then NOT get paid? (send link so we know who to avoid)

Do you guys wonder how many people would try getting your stuff, not pay and then pawn/sell it off somewhere else?

I strongly agree that feedback and having other RR members that can vouch for one's identity/integrity (buyer or seller) go a long way.

I bought a heli from a dude who lives outside of the US and had no feedback...however lots of local RR members know the guy and that's all I needed. I have been lucky thus far (knock on woodies).

That was me!!

I have an idea that may end with Scammers, here the idea:

The idea is that a trusty RC Heli stores or even Mark/RR offer a service to collect buyer’s payment (Fee to be defined). After that, the RC store confirms they have the money and advice the seller to send merchandise.
Ones the buyer receives the merchandise and if the buyer is happy with the deal the buyer then confirms they can pay the seller
