me too. But my HS is too high, thus inefficient.
Cant wait for 14t pinions to be out.

For the love of the hobby

When I ran my Trex 500, to be happy I needed around 2900-3000 rpm not to mention +-13 pitch for quick stops and punch outs. With the Protos I only needed 2600 rpm and +-11 degree pitch to do the same type of flying. I am using 6s2500 EVOs and EVOlites. On my Protos I also get to use my two Zippy 3s2200 in series for 5 minutes ( a $50 pack set ). All my packs run lower temp on my Protos, even though they were cycled on my Trex 500 20-30 times already. The more cycles you have on your packs the hotter they run. I killed a couple of Outrage 6s2200 on my Trex 500 last year just doing simple flying.

yup, i found the same thing. the trex 600 is just too heavy a bird for 6S 2200. probably 6S 2500 is a minimum. I was running 6S 3000 and it made it a bit heavy but they came down just warmer than ambient, so the should last a long time. the now i'm running 6S A123's and they seem to be doing fine.

t-rex 600 you should have minimum of 5000mah total in packs for sure, anything less kills them period.

My stock motor is ailing probably due to the heat. Basically lost my pop after 40 flights. I picked up a Z20-850kv and it runs very cool, even my batteries run cool, however it does not have the same pop as the initial flights of my stock motor, even at 100 percent throttle, I am only feeling 2600 rpm with the Z20. The stock motor's KV is incorrect it seems to be 900kv because I was getting over 3000rpm at 100 percent. I ordered a 16T pinion to bring the Z20 up to speed. If you don't mind a max 2600 headspeed with stock 15T pinion the Z20-850kv will give you an extra minute of flight and cooler running. I have way too many 6s packs to change over to HV.

i've heard from several sources the Z motors wear out quickly, about 50 flights or so. Can't say for sure if its true but i've heard the same story over and over. My guess would be either magnets that have low temperature resistance or wire that changes resistance easily with heat. I'm partial to scorpions myself. great engineering, great customer service.

and yes, i meant trex 500 in my above post

Interesting, I had Z20A-980 on my Hurricane which I flew over 50+ flights, I sold that motor to a friend who started flying and has well over 50 flights on it. I got Z30A-1100 (used) which I flew well over 75 and still can use today but I changed helis. I also ran a Z20-1470kv on Trex 500 over 100+ and its still going strong with another owner. The stock Align 500L motor in it died on its first crash, I have had 9 other crashes on the Trex 500 with Z20 and no problems. I also used a Z15-1700 on another Trex 500 and that was pretty good but cant comment on it as I only flew it for 5 flights before I went Protos, I would love to see a Z15-900kv motor on my Protos.

So I have had 4 Tonic Z motors where there were all good (knock on wood), however I did have only one Scorpion 3028-1100 kv and the bearings went out after only 10 flights...(runs too hot IMHO) that is the extent of my experience with Scorpions. Innovative have excellent service and repaired the motor. Scorpion manual says oil bearings before so many flights, sorry I don't have time for that. I rather have a motor run cool and not deal with oil and burning up. Summer here is like 90-100 degrees. So far only the Z motors have worked for me. I just hope my Hacker Turbine can stand the heat of summer. BTW my stock Guai motor ran extremely hot 50+ flight before going with Z20-980, but the bearing nor the motor ever quit. LOL a friend burnt his finger testing the temperature.

I must say the Tonic motor is not the most powerful motor you can buy! however they run cooler than most motors I have tried and can handle anything I throw at it.

Sorry, I didn't meant to Hi-Jack this thread...
