I'll give you $1250.00 for the pair. That'll put you halfway to the Logo extreme. (I'd buy one myself if I could fly as well as you can!)

RC, if you sell your arms and legs how in the world are you going to build and fly the thing. Think about internal organs bro. You can live without some of those but retain your arms and more importantly your thumbs!!

Thumbs
Mark, forget his thumbs. You'll want his eyes which see the heli and the quadrant of his brain that tell his thumbs what to do

I just wanted to update you guys on my 700N. I think I've finally got the bugs worked out of it. I'm now on my third gallon of trouble free flying. I'm still running it fairly rich at 1800 HS and I'm still impressed with how it performs. The Spartan DS760 and S9254 and my 3800mah LIFE pack is working well. Hoping to get down there and fly with you guys soon. Too many hobbies for Saturday!!

Life has conspired to eat enough out of my play fund to not get the Xxtreme on the first batch. Maybe for the second batch. We'll see as it's mainly a timing thing. I've already got servos for it though.

Rc, you are lucky that you do not live in India. You can sell your organs down there and fly you new Xtrem, because they collect when you die. I don't know if they make sure that you die sooner than later.

Why didn't they go with a molded frame on this bird?

Molds take a very large up front investment which takes volume sales to recover from before turning a profit. Because the 800 class will likely be a niche market for some time to come due to sheer size and support cost it did not make business sense to go with a molded frame. Your just not going to sell as many of these things as you would in an already accepted and mature 600 size market.

If you look at the current Logo 500/600 each frame mold was $125,000 to setup. You have a right and left side frame so your talking a quarter of a million in setup just for the frame alone, not to mention the rest of the heli. Much of the 500/600 head and tail designs had been developed and refined on previous 500 and 600 sized Logo versions like the Logo 10, Logo 14, and Logo Bionic. So now if you were to do a newly designed molded frame for the Xxtreme you'd be adding large costs to frame setup while having to R&D the rest of a completely new design and class of heli for which no precedent existed. Virtually nothing on the Xxtreme could be leveraged from existing Mikado parts.

Molds are also harder to tweak the final design when unknown issues come up. CF plates and CNC blocks of aluminum allow more flexibility in changes to the design.

From what i've been told is Ralf at Mikado would have loved to do a molded frame but looking at some of the factors above it probably made more sense to go with a stacked CF frame design. I'm sure the cost, flexibility, and not to mention the economic climate in Europe all factored into the decision.

My personal opinion is that in the end the added cost that would have to be passed on to the consumer for a new size class would have been too hard to swallow. Look at how many folks wince (myself included)at the cost of putting this bird up in the air as it is. Now pass along the cost of the molded frame along on top of that price and I think it would have pushed it over the edge for all but a very small segment of the hobby. I do think the Xxtreme will essentially kick open the door for the true 800 size market to become more mainstream. Much like the 90 size has evolved and more or less been accepted as mainstream in the hobby.

I could machine up the mold for a few bucks less. Do they make "extreme" training gear to go with the 800? oke:

Well, here is my vote for BigFil:

I think just for that write up, they should send you a complete kit and all electronics. You build it, and every once in a while let us test fly it around and charge a fee as a % of the total price of the model per number of reversed piro flips and square vertical tic Toc loops correctly executed.. Between the 10 of us here, we'll have the unit paid off in less than six months and then we can really go to town on it ..
