Well the g401b works great... but, I've burned up the one ds75 I had and one s75 analog so I've gone back to the align gyro for now but I'll go back once I get a s9650... or equivalent if there is one.

So I just dumped a little bit of cash on some gear for the Guru. I've been dying to throw the 370 back on the CP, so I bought a Turnigy E500 motor (4000kV) and a 40A ESC for it. I figure since the heli is already fairly cheap, might as well continue the tradition. Motor and ESC was less than 50 bucks, and if the reviews have it right, it will have more power than the 430XL.

Now, here comes the questions.... Since I have the HDX 300 head, I know I should be built fairly well for headspeed, BUT... The motor comes stock with a 13T pinion. If the calculator I used is right, that would put me at 3700 rpm at the head. If I were to install a 12T, 3400 rpm. I highly doubt this motor is going to get hot with a 12T, but is 3400 too much? I know some of the smaller helis such as the Gaui have ridiculous head speeds, if I had decent blades... could I? Remember blade CP blades are only 250mm

I guess in the end I could always just keep the throttle down. You can be assured I will be 50+ feet away the first time I spin it up LoL!

I need one of those to fly in my office. Tried to fly my .90 in there but man is my wife pissed now!

Crash and Burn

The Guru-Z has had its last flight for a while Lost the tail servo and come in hard. Frame on both sides of the motor snapped... needs a total rebuild! I'll post pictures later but for now, all the electronics are going back on the cpp so I can keep crashing

Brian, keep us posted on the parts you bought for the Guru !

I've already put the cpp back together with the 430xl and test flight went well. The Guru may sit for a while. I still would like to know how the new gear Brian is going to use works in the Guru...and some pictures of the build would be nice keep posting!

This was a quick build and at some point I'll need to clean things up!

Here are pics of the Guru frame damage...broken blade grip and tail boom strike

Dang.... nice one! I guess we know where the weak points are now! Your tail boom looks just like mine, take a pair of channel locks and bend that out! It is a bummer though, I could have helped you out, the parts are so cheap through them, only hours too late!

I'll post photos when this stuff arrives... I expect about a week, maybe a day or two extra, shipping from these guys is supposedly pretty fast, it was shipped within a couple hours.

I finally have all the parts to complete my Guru, the Turnigy 500 motor came in today... things smaller than my 370 in size! New motor mount, 3S 1800mAh battery, 40A Esc, all for ~80 bucks thanks to HK. I think all of these will be perfect for this heli. Only thing left is to get a little smaller pinion from the LHS.

Is a 12T pinion too much for a 4000kv motor in this kit? The main gear is 140T.

I'm using 11 with the 430xl. Lets see some pictures soon. I really like to look at what others are using and how things work for them.
I've gone to the "other side" Picked up a Traxxas bandit xl5 on a trade for some of my e-flite lipo's. This thing is awesome even my daughter(7) can use it when set in training mode,50% throttle. Can't wait to go brushless...60+mph

I'm still flying the cp-guru but not as much.

The only pictures I'm posting at this point is when it becomes airborne... wether I throw it out the damn window or if flies itself.... not sure which will come first.

Have to get a different pinion. The flare on the Rhino pinions wont fit in the motor mount.

So I bought an mSR last week, and found a Belt-CP for 50 bucks today..... To tell you the truth, I'm about ready to sell the damn thing for 100 bux, minus electronics. It has the HDX head in it, so I think its worth 100.

The fleet is growing...

Alright, so the motor is... "INSTALLED" with one screw. Theres no clearance between the main gear and the motor mount for the second screw, so.... unfortunately, I think I'm going to dab a small bead of CA on the other side and call it the second screw. I don't want to counter-sink this motor mount. Its too much work and I doubt I"ll get it in the right spot. I may even just leave it with one screw, I've got a sort of 'vibration reducing' putty tape under it which grips and sticks very nicely.

Either way, I spun it up without the blades..... VERY nice. Finally some life. Only I fear the headspeed is still really high. Don't think I'm going to feel comfortable using woodies. Calculator with 12T pinion says spool-up RPM of 3800...lol Nominal at 100% 3600. Might just cap the throttle at 80-85% until I get a smaller pinion... we'll see.

HAHAHHAHAHAH!!!!!

My Guru-Z made first flight just now..... I was running it up checking tracking on the floor. I've limited it to 80% in the throttle. I decided to give the an ever so slight punch in the collective. Almost a mistake! HOLY COW... LoL the little thing PUNCHED UP SO FAST I almost hit the ceiling of my basement. It's going really flying in a few!

Should I be worried that my servo's aren't big enough if I have power off and I lift it by the head and the servo's wont hold the dead weight. Haven't gotten a chance to really fly it yet, NE is a rainy place today.

And just when I thought I was going to get it up and going today, the landing gear breaks. I was actually flying it, but I was dealing with a sticky collective. Too much slop in my HDX head, almost had it cleaned up when this broke on a soft landing even. I see what you were talking about now! Looks like I'm going to the hobby shop! May end up fitting my super skids from my old BCP if I can't find anything. Which ones did you fit when yours broke?

Hey Brian, I used my super skids from the cpp and some hardware I had in my tool box. They work great and give more ground clearance than the guru skids. I've had some pretty hard landings and never broke these skids. I think I'm going to keep everything the way it is for now, flew yesterday and had a blast zipping around the yard and over the nieghbors backyards to get the dogs all worked up, but I'm going to be putting my $$ aside for a Traxxas Jato 3.3 The bandit is fun but this thing is CRAZY fun!
