Skarn: There are two raffles as you may recall. The one with all the pilots prizes will go on all day Friday and Saturday. We have thousands of dollars worth of pilot give aways. We're also going to do the same thing and raffle off 2-3 helis, and that you don't need to be around to win, and I will draw that Saturday night at the BBQ.

See you all Friday!

Guys this may be an old WWII airport and the park itself is large, but where I flew at last year wasn't large enough to land a 150....well maybe, but not take back off. I thought the flying stations were pretty close for me. Nice facility and great folks but the flying area is not quite as large as what it seems to read here. Don't get me wrong, it's a great fun fly and beautiful place but several of the folks I talked with thought that the flying stations should have been cut down by two to give more flying room. Not going to make it this year.....but times are tough in my household and the funfly trips had to be sacrificed.

ummm...I think a simple "I won't be able to make it" would have worked just as well also.

Ummmm.....NO because the area to fly is no where near the size of a full scale airport. Like I said, nice facility, great folks, great food. The actual flying space is more like 10 acres.....not thousands. That's all. Ask the guys that mid-aired a new Trex700 and Hirobo Freya on Saturday last year if the flying stations were a little close.

My bad on the mis-identification. I was watching from the road in front of the hovering area. The canopy looked like a Freya at that distance.... I didn't go and take a look at the carnage up close. No matter what brand the heli, it was a spectacular mid-air.

Honestly I do not know you Shuttle nor how you fly or prefer to fly. but I do know Raja, and if he tells me that there is not enough room to fly then I will agree and take that as an honest opinion of the field. Raja is one of the few pilots that I know will stretch his wings at fun fly's and use all the space he can to get his flights in. I'll wait and see.

I was the one with the 700, and yes, I believe the stations are way too tight. I feel they should be at least as big as Ircha.

At Huntsville this year, they had them at the same distance as Maryland was last year. Myself and others said something to the CD, and they opened them up by more than double by removing two flight stations. Everyone was able to open up their flying with out worrying as much about mid-airs. They had 119 pilots, and even with less stations, everyone got to fly as much as they wanted.

I talked to Wayne about this, and hopefully he will open them back up.

When you go to funflies, flying uninturrupted is never on people's minds. If that was important, they can stay at home and put in as many flights as they want.

Funfly is just that! You go there to have fun. That means enjoying other people's flying and chit chat about helis while watching and waiting in line to go up.

Personally, I too would like to see more elbow room when I or Justin flies. I do remember the fun time is while you wait in line and watching the guy in front of you and to the left and right. Perhaps I might have done that to other pilots as well.

I did witness, few pilots who fly big, that invaded into next cones. What I would like to see is to open up the spacing of the cones and put in orange flags at mid point between the cones to mark each pilot's side boundaries. Without these outer markers, sometimes the left and right pilot's cones become boundaries.

So, I'm also in favor of spacing the cones further and in addition, adding outer marker flags between cones.

No offense to anyone when I say this but we arent dealing with a field the size of IRCHA!! I think Wayne does a great job working with what he has. Maybe one or two stations less will help but in the end people will just start flying bigger and you will be right back in the same situation. Even as big as IRCHA was there were still mid airs and people were still flying in front of others cones. Its just part of the funfly in my opinion!

True, but who wants to flip flop for 8 minutes in a 20 foot box just so you don`t hit anyone??

Like Red said, I say open them up some and I think everyone will be happier.

Guys:

As you know, we are flexible and will do whatever you want! The cones are almost 140 feet apart, leaving a box of almost 150 feet per pilot.

Maybe more important than spacing of the cones is that all pilots need to have a spotter who is alert and communicates.

When you show up this weekend take a look at the cones, if enough people want them moved, we'll do that! I've had two people complain in the past years that we had the cones too close.

See you all this weekend!

With or without cone spacing change, how about flight boundary marker flags as shown below?

Benny,
You can rest assured that you as well invaded others airspace. From my flight staion I was looking straight out at your bird. Lol On the same token, I probably did it to others as well.

Hopefully with the boundary markers, my caller would call out the violations.
