I read somewhere that the 2010 plus version that hobby people have, has the,fg frames and fg blades , I'd have to verify that before I bought one not that that's a deal breaker at all especially for 39.95 ! The 2010 version has that stuff and I'd want to receive what I was expecting is all.

It should be an interesting build I wonder how they do the nuts on the fg frames............

Hobby people seem to have a good supply of parts, but as someone else posted , it seems only a few places carry them. They still have them for 39.95 , I wonder if that'll change Monday. Hell of a deal for a very nice, very quiet, as ballistic as you want machine.

idk but i liek to use paypal as payment and hobby people dont take that plus for 39.99 rest assured u do not get the gf frames they say there is a new version for 2010 i have yet to see it the pro version was great but not cheap at almost $500 there are better options but still 39.99 for a decent heli is a hell of a good deal although last one i had i crashed and broke the cheap plastic head completely off i guess u cant excpet much especially when wood blades are included

Mabey one day i will actually land one of these things !!

Metal head bock is a good option and 15t.........Even though I've heard even the metal yoke can skew on a bad impact, but a nice piece to have ..... everything else should be good to go...

On the Rcer site they make it sound like it comes with those goodies, that's why if i were to get one I'd call and find out .

Here's where I got the info ,straight from Rcer, they mention the fg frames and fg blades, they also seem to strongly point where you can get this at a discounted price.

Quote :

"We have to tell you this good news. One of the biggest RC distributor.
HobbyPeople carry Dragonus series now.
Now they have special sales price . It's awsome.
And this Plus version will use new FG blade and New FG frame."

Thanks for clearing that up, I was pretty sure it would, I didn't think Rcer would misrepresent.

If you got one what's the overall quality of the frames and blades?

That's cool , good to hear...

How do things fasten now without the nuts are they integrated as per usual in the in between frame plates/ stiffeners?

Yep dynamite deal, if someones put a bunch of money into another brand machine and aren't really happy with it's flying qualities, or have a bad mishap, I highly recommend them having one of these waiting in their closet or wherever . Hell I dare say (zipping up flame suit as I write) just build it. If you set these up anywhere close to right with a 3400 Kv motor and 15t pinion on 3s you should (<approx)be in for a pleasant surprise, especially for the performance minded.

The frame sides (upper and lower) are FG, but the cross members (motor mount, skid mount, battery mount, gyro cage) are still aluminum. And yes, the nuts are attached to these parts.

As others have stated 2010 version does come with FG frame and FG blades. The blades are actually of very good quality. They are very light, stiff and balance is right on.
This was second Dragonus I have put together and I can say that build in nuts make the build go a lot quicker.
Besides FG frame and blades, the damper have been improved as well. It is still two o-rings but the spacer is a lot better now.

How ever in my opinion the following still needs to be improved.
The plastic swash plate is horrible, has way too much play. Kit still comes with the old stile canopy which will break first serious crash. It also still has crappy aluminum ball links. Tail slider did not get fixed, thus most likely will have separation issues again.
Finally I really would like to see closed washout cage, because setting it up now is one of the most unpleasant things about putting this kit together (I hate trimming canopy as well )

Also just a note, to my understanding Helidirect and Hobby-Lobby will NO longer carry RCer products, thus HobbyPeople will be the only place in North America where one would be able to get parts.

Hi!

Just a new video of Dragonus, showing what can it do (and even more ,when my skill will growe,in future )

14t with RCer motor! On 25C packs and very very heavy blades (28g each).
Imagine how fast and powerfull will it be on 18g blades and 40C...

It's a shame RCer has fallen apart.

I remember seeing their 500 class prototype in 2007, but it needed a lot of work. Seems like that project never happened.

VFR750, the built in nuts were in production in 2007 and it makes a world of difference.

I am currently looking for some pictures of the 500 prototype. Anyone that might have some, let me know.

i think rcer is hanging in by a thread they need to start working on distrubution instead of new design there 450 has a great design if they would refine it a little copy it into a 500 as well they could dominate the market they just dont seem to have the intres or finances anyone who has flown there 450 pro will say it is an awesome machine but why borther if u cant buy parts and so on great heli worth the $$$ but lack of parts avail and lack of marketing have made the heli worthless

Mabey one day i will actually land one of these things !!

Alternative Parts

Looks like this thread is not going anywhere, hopefully this might help to start conversation again

In case anyone is interested this is how one can upgrade to Metal Hub and Metal Blade Grips with 4mm spindle shaft for under $50 plus S&H.
Outrage G5 Hub is designed for 4mm Spindle shaft
http://www.helidirect.com/rg50140ss...mbly-p-7357.hdx
make sure to add free dampers
http://www.helidirect.com/head-set-...1442-p-8998.hdx
Outrage Blade grips are grate but their cheaper alternatives
http://www.xheli.com/exi-35102.html
EXI blade grips come with all hardware needed, spindle shaft is included
Note: If you decide to keep your original plastic control arms you will need to add an additional washer between EXI blade grips and control arms, for ball links to clear

Some other parts of interest

Enjoy

Hey VFR good stuff... I know you mentioned some things about compatibility , and I want to be clear for future reference : Are the pick off points all the same and everything else compatible ? Add the grips, head yoke and everything else bolts up?. Thanks !

Aw man. I hope the Dragonus sticks around. I realy dig mine and I'm not that fond of 450 size birds. But at 39 smackers for a kit and with some decent electronics she flies every bit as good as a Trex 450 to me but at WAY less $$. I just dig this heli man, I've been trying to get some other pilots interested in trying RCer out. Hobby People has damn good prices on spares and I bought 2 extra kits just cause it so cheap. The only thing I'd change is include a metal swash, single piece FB cage and lose the double stack frames. But I'm just nit picking, as is I still dig it!

TT

I don't do 3D....no wait. Oh thats right, I can't do 3D!

Other Parts

Dos Equis sorry for the late reply I have been out of town.

The only thing I can guaranty that EXI blade grips and Outrage Main Hub will work. Every thing aligns just fine and heli flies pretty well. How ever if you do use original RCER plastic control arms (that is what I did) you will need to add an additional washer(s) between blade grips and the arms for ball links to clear. Putting one additional washer did the trick for me; but if you use different ball links (generic steel ball links) you might have to put an additional one.

Also, EXI metal swashplate works very well.
http://www.xheli.com/exi-35108.html

As far as other combination of parts, I can not guaranty anything. Looks like they will work but I did not actually try to put them together.

Motor and ESC from HK or HobbyPartz

norstaroption,

Motor is a easy one

From HobbyKing
Turnigy Typhoon 2215H or 2218H
If you are into very heavy 3D 2218H is better, otherwise 2215H
Note, kV on both 2215H and 2218H is much higher than stated

ESC is not as simple
form HobbyKing
Ok ESC - TURNIGY Plush 40amp Speed Controller
Better ESC - Mystery 40A Brushless Speed Controller (Blue Series)
Best ESC - TURNIGY K-Force 40A Brushless ESC

from HobbyPartz
HobbyWing 40amp Platinum Pro (you can find this one on EBay for less)

TURNIGY K-Force line is a copy of HobbyWing Platinum Pro line

Not sure how good is the Governor Mode on K-Force, but it works great on Hobbywing. Mystery Governor Mode is only good for very soft start.
Also, if you are not into 3D yet, you easily can get away with a 30A ESC.
I personally like to have more than I need, but 30A will do just fine for either 2215 or 2218 motors.

Hopefully this helps
