Who was the first person that came to your attention and blew you away with their flight characteristics. Hands down for me it was Alan Szabo Jr. I think it had to do with the sheer number of his vids on youtube (and the quality).

You can answer with who first taught you how to fly if you want.

Alan if your out there reading this, --Word!

Robert Gorham, 1985, Kansas City, Missouri, at a Hobby Expo type show. Flying a GMP Competitor, hot off the NATS competition trail.

Followed by his late father, John Gorham, flying the pants off an OS28 powered, fixed-pitch GMP Cricket at the same event.

I wonder how long

It took them in those days to buy completely what was needed to fly. Probably some trial and error to say the least, We have parts that fit together better now, I imagine, but some of you might say other!

The first time I ever saw an RC heli was when I met Jim Stark in Chciago in 2004 when I was still playing around with my RC Monster Trucks... Watching him fly his heli 3D got me thinking about the hobby, but I didn't have the cash and "other pre-requisits" to start flying...

The same year I accidentaly met him again in Connecticut at a funfly that I happened to attend with a friend of mine, Alan Szabo Jr. was there too and I saw him fly, and WOW it blew me away...

That was the last time I saw a heli until 7 months ago when I met Tareq Alsaadi and a few other friend here in Dubai... I've now been flying for 7 months and am officially a heli addict...

I must admit that watching pros fly in person is A LOT different than watching their vids on YouTube. I dont think videos can justify their skills...

G

I went to my first heli event in mid 1988.

Saw Warren Allred, who was representing Miniature back then, fly a perfect FAI routine to best Mas and Youngblood by a hair... I have yet to see anyone fly to smooth and precise as that day.

There are so many top notch pilot out there these days with fantastic flying routines it's hard to say, just when you think you've seen the best of Alan Szabo Jr then along come Nick Maxwell does a show that blows you're mind and you can't decide.

And what about those kid's just out of diapers flying the pants off the rest of us, what will they be like five years down the road.

But there just flayers. The Hero's are all the Old timer's in the business that make it possible for us to have this hobby in the first place.

If the wings are traveling faster than the fuselage, it's probably a helicopter.

For me it was Curtis Youngblood. I happened to go to a MayDay heli FF and thought it was supposed to be an airplane FF. I went with a friend and he told me it was all planes with a few helis. I had never seen helis fly 3D until that day and was not interested in them in the least. By the time we left I was planning to buy a heli. I had a heli about a month later and haven't flown a plane since getting my first heli up.

Anthony Jager and Robert Ables. They were flying out behind Mikes Hobby shop. I must have gone through 20 crashes trying to catch up.

i got to see Youngblood at the SRC in Texas and i've yet to see anyone fly that smoothly. Lot's of great pilots out there but as far as fluid motion with a heli, i'll go with CY hands down.

fly it like you stole it
