We got the 700e in the air today and had a couple of issues. we set the soft start/spool-up on the HV110 as low as it would go and softened up the throttle curves and the pinion on the scorpion 560 slipped. we then made a flat spot on the motor shaft to keep the pinion in place and i believe solved that problem. is everyone having to do this on the scorpion motors?
once we got that going we were spooling up as slow as possible and there goes the main gear!. the pinion was set with little to no backlash and using a 15t pinion. what are you electric guys doing to get the start up even slower? if i go with even a larger pinion will that mesh better? any help would be greatly appreciated. anxious to get this thing in the air!

Adding a flat spot on elec motors is standard procedure if its not already done by mfg. As you have witnessed - pinion can/will slip if this step is skipped.

I'm running HK4035-500 with 17T. Main gear issue is hit & miss. The only thing to do is purchase the newer -1 Align gear replacement.

The 17T would provide a HS of 2300/12S 1920/10S. Some have taken Mikado 5mm pinion and bored to 6mm. The only problem is you're limited with the KV if using 12S as you generally want to gear for target headspeed.

People are having more issues with the main gear opposed to pinion.

I use the 4035-500 so I can use a 17t pinion which provides more contact area than a 15. Very good 6mm rhino pinions here.

The problem with the Mikado is the teeth are not very long so it has to be spot on. With the Rhino's the teeth run nearly the length of the pinion.

Rchover just emailed me and said they didn't have the new gears either. So I ordered 2 packs of the old gears to hold me over til I can find the new ones. I also ordered 16 and 17t rhino pinions.
What headspeed are you running on your 700e duke?

She's not quite in the air yet due to lack of time & Align teething problems but aiming for 1900.

The Rhinos are not quite drilled 6mm all the way, there is a couple of mm at the end for a stop. It comes out real easy with a good 6mm drill.

i should be able to fix that on the drill press. thanks for the heads up.
so is there anyway to slow this spool up anymore? we had to tighten the blades really really tight because as soon as the motor engages the tail will jump a foot or two to the side and the blades folded. is this normal with the scorpion 560? on the cc hv110 we did a custom setting for spool up which allowed us to set it to 1 instead of the the 2(low) setting. some other setting(don't remember the name) wouldn't go lower than 39 for some reason. don't know much about this electric stuff...sorry if that isn't enough info.

It might not be the spool-up speed, but the initial motor power. I believe it's called Motor Start Power.
