i have a gy 401 and have a futaba radio and i have a once in a while tail wag like maybe once every two or three mins my gain is set in my radio and it is set to these settings up>60% and down>52% so my question is what would cause the once in a while wag its not really a wag more like a back and forth maybe an inch of movement?

Check your mounting tape, especially if you are using Futaba tape.

It should be split in half and the gyro is twisting on it.

Lower you gain,,60 seems to high..I run mine at 45 with a good locked in tail..When this happends does the engine sound different...Make sure your tail linkage is not binding.,..

Yes... your gain is too high. Keep in mind, that the higher your headspeeds ie. idle-1 and up to idle-2.. your tail will be extra sensative. Typicaly but not always, your gain should be lower the higher your headspeed becomes. Lower your settings, I bet your wag will disappear.

radio numbers mean nothing

Mine is at 70 and works fine. A fellow club members is at 16 and starts wagging around 20. I would just take it down 5 or 10 and see what happens you never know. Could be a rich engine also

question

Do you leave air at the top of the tank? Or do you fill it COMPLETELY full? You should have air at the top of the tank in my opinion.

RaptorMan23-
I have had one of my helo's exhibit the same things as Flipurbird!
(Also a Futaba Gy401 with a little wag after power increases, banks etc)
I'm a little confused by the "air in the tank" thing too..
Now (not bustin' on you) explain what you mean, I could've missed something!
I usually fill my tank up (on Raptor 50 Titan) till it's about 1/4" below the top, thinking that this allowed a small area for pressurizing by the muffler...
The helo still has the micro wag, I have started the back the gain down game, Maybe I'm looking in the wrong direction....

Tony, Not Hijacking the thread, just had one of the 50's doing exactly what you described... I will replace the Futaba mounting tape with something better... Just looking to solve a similar problem!

Air in the tank

It means the same exact thing you said:

So what I am understanding is that the amount of air pressure in a tank can have an effect on the mixture, then the mixture has an effect on the tail (on the rich/lean thing)
Or am I "really confused" on this...
I was looking into the Gain issue, but then again why would I have to adjust the gain, if it didn't do it two weeks ago?????????

Well see the tank pressure probibly isnt the problem, kinda sounds like a engine problem if its coming on and off like that. A poorly tuned engine can cause tail wag

Read this, it may answer both your questions.

So what happens when the tank is half empty half way through a flight?

Don't pull our legs.

My helis fly and run the same whether I fill the tank halfway up, or to the brim.
