Ive had umbilical hernia surgery twice and the second time the surgeon placed mesh inside of me. I was told that I would have to really try in order to get another hernia. Well no more than a month later I was getting pain again in the same spots. Yeah....spots, I had "multiples" meaning lots of hernias. Its bulging out again like it used to before surgery and just last night I was having ALOT of pain. It took my breath away a couple times and I kinda think of myself as being pretty tough but that was some serious pain. I was just sitting on the recliner watching TV when it happened. I havent done anything that I can think of that would cause more hernias. I work road construction but Im laid off for the winter so work isnt it. Am I just getting bad surgeons or what???

And Im only 24 years old!!!

Same surgeon for all treatments?

If so sounds like he is trying to make it threw the winter also.

But I would find a specialist that is in a different hospital this dose sound like bad service.

I hate to hear about this kind of injury . I know 2 people that have had the same issues for years on end, never to get healed up 100%.I think it's the nature of the beast.I hope the best for you rap.

sounds like a case of over-promising and under-delivering.. if only the doctor had given you a more realistic outlook instead of having you believe that you'd have to really try to get another hernia...

different surgeons

I had two different surgeons and they both kinda told me the same thing. " Once the 6 week healing is over, continue as you were before the hernias came about youll be fine. After the second surgery I had two lumps by my belly button near the cut the surgeon made and to this day they have never gone away. I got the surgery around the end of july this year. Ive got to the doctor a few times and each time he always says it will go away. Im thinking that the mesh he put inside of me curled up and thats why ive got lumps

My sister inlaw has had the same repair done with the mesh and has not had any more problems but every one heals differently.

Since you have had this reoccur I would talk to a specialist in this type of problem.

I'm not a DR but I slept at a super8 last night

I am a medical doctor, and with umbilical hernia surgery, the third one is almost always successful. I would also suggest since you are looking for medical advise from random people on a heli forum, that you get your head thoroughly examined. Than get a second opinion.

So a doctor would have been able to read the subject, that you are looking for doctors, and this would have told him to not open his mouth? If this is your opinion of doctors, than you ARE seeing the wrong ones.

I in fact am a medical doctor, and my advice was truthful, except for the "third one's the charm" thing.

Good luck,

After watching "Sicko" by Michael Moore, it doesn't surprise me that any operation over there is not quite successful !!

Oh please, are you really that stupid??
Yes, there are people who are in the field that shouldn't be just like in any field of work, but there are also more specialists and experts here then anywhere else in the world.

The doctors and nurses here have a much higher standard of schooling then anywhere else in the world. That’s why so many foreigners always come here to learn and not just go to school in their own countries.

Which is worse, ignorance or apathy? I don't know and I don't care!
