I got the Triton charger today, http://www.electrifly.com/chargers/gpmm3152.html and it doesn't include a balancer on it , am getting the lithium ion battery 7.2 volts 5200 mah , is it necessary to have a balancer when I charger the battery or its only the case with Lipo batteries ??

thanksss

Don't worry about it. Most Li-ion receiver packs don't even have balance plugs. They self balance to a certain degree and at the low rates they are charged and discharged at it's not a concern.

I say get a cheap balancer, it will help keeping lifetime on your packs, regardless if its a LiIon or LiPo.

If you start charging LiPo I say its more or less stupid to not use a good balancer, both fire-safety & life-prolonging.

Flightpower balancer works with any charger and it is smart enough to cut at over-voltage situations.

For balancer purpose, yes, but aint gonna give you no safety since its possible for the pack to be over-charged.

For that your better off with this:
http://www.readyheli.com/Flightpowe...er_p/fpvbal.htm

Ps: regardless of what you choose, you need to see to it that you have the correct cables, there is different brands of balancer plugs that you need to match with adapters if the balancer you choose isnt the same as your pack.

Does your Li-ion pack even have a balance tap on it? Most don't. In fact, I can't recall ever seeing one that does, and I've got ones from Fromeco, Duralite, and TBM in my shop.

2600 will be fine for a .50 (I run it on my T600) unless you go VBar or go unregulated 8.4v on JR8717.

I guess the difference would be that the 2600 battery will stay less ((running time)) , right ? compared to 5200 .
no am not running v-bar
my setup is the following:
1.Governor : Futaba GV-1
2.Arizona Regulator with JR switch
3.Futaba 401 Gyro
4.Carbsmart for needle valve control from CSM
5.JR 7 ch, PCM reciver.
6.OS engine Hyper 50
7.Align Mufller
8.Switchglo for in-board glow starter
9.Digital servos for cyclic : Hitec HS-5645MG Digital Torque
10.Digital servo for tail Rudder : Futaba, S9254

thanksss

Yep, but you will get alot of flights from that 2600 too, the Hitec servos arent current hogs like JR8717

But if you want to go to the field and stay all day without bringing an extra pack, then its the 5200 pack that's the way to go.

I have 2 x 2600 instead, I like a lighter machine.

The Pantera tends to run pretty tail heavy, I'd probably go with the larger pack. The heli will be a bit heavier with the 5200, but you'll get more flights, and I know that I had to add lead to the front of mine to balance with the 2600.

Save your money on a balancer, the Fromeco packs don't have balancing taps so you won't even be able to use it. When you get to using Lipos, you'll have to have one, but you may as well save the cash for now.

I'm trying the A123's for RX packs. Got rid of the regulator altogether. Fast charge and hardly any balancing issues. They also don't burn.

That's a great option too, I've switched everything I own to the A123s, I like them better than the Lithium Ions. Fromeco sells the A123s (and the no name equivalents) as well, they call them the Iron Corps and Iron Corps Extreme packs.

but i think will stay with lithium ions pack just because my charger doesn't support A123 , unless the same setup for the lipo charger can work with A123 ones.
