Well guys, I have been away from this forum for quite some time. Been filling my days with a Trex450, and a 600N, as well as planks. I sold my QJ8V2EX a while ago, and I sure miss the "crispness" of the ep8.

My question, now that I am thinking of bulding the Ultimate 500class electric heli...(I have considered the Trex500, but am just stuck on qj) is weather to build a ep8v2ex or the ep9. To my knowledge, only Jimbo is flying a ep9. Any thoughts Jimbo?

I will be mostly flying mild 3d, and using this bird as a once in awhile camera ship. I plan on using a scorpion motor on a 6s1p setup.. I might even consider a 8s2p setup as well....

Help is always appreciated...

I realy love my EP9, I stretched it to 470mm mains.
I fly it on 6s1p 3300mah and it is a dream to fly.
Forget about the Scorpion motors or the Hackermotors for the EP8/9 helis. The Medusa 36-50-1000kv , the v1 or the v2 motors are the best motors , period. On 6s1p 3300mah 25C , it is the most powerful set-up that I have tried, and believe me , I have tried many many different set-ups on the QoJ helis. The Medusa motor with a Castlecreations ESC, the 60amp or the 80amp, and there is no better set-up.
As far as the ultimate 500 size heli? The EP8 Expert is the ULTIMATE 500 size heli. The 36-50-1000kv Medusa , CC PH 80amp ESC, the Castlecreations 10amp BEC, some SAB 430mm carbon main blades, some HS85MG servos on cyclic, gy401/s9254 on the tail and a good 3000-3300mah 6s1p 25C battery and that is it . After years of experimenting with the EP8 , this is the ultimate set-up that I have came to....

Thanks for the info Jimbo - you just saved me years worth of testing different setups!

I just spent loads on a new 10c radio, and a Trex500Superior (TT Tail) kit.(great parts support for the Align helis) I will definatly be getting another quick when my finances recover, and will use the info you gave me when sourcing out the components. At least I can use the same blades on both helis - and possibly more parts from the 500 on the quick...

(I wonder if I can buy just the rotorhead of the EP9?)

Thanks again Jimbo..

So I have just been on the quick site and been doing a whole heap of reading, looks like it wouldnt be that hard to setup a ep8 with the driven tail, as it appears most of the parts for it are either from the ep8 or ep18, you would have to do some slight frame mods but i cant see why it couldnt be done, what do you think Jimbo seem a you have them both.

It would be easier to just buy the EP9, too much modifications to go from EP8 to EP9...
