I Went out to the field today to fly my 500. few for 30 sec. I went to do a back flip and it happened. I have never had a boom strike in the air before. Lost a battery ,canopy, tail blades , boom, paddles, fly bar, spindle Besides the battery it really wasn't that bad.
Any ways what do you guys think caused this to happened? the bird only has about 25 flights on it. I don't think that the dampeners would have wore out that fast. I was using the 3d dampeners that come with the kit.
I almost think that the canopy came off, but it was hard to tell it all happened so fast.

Did the battery come loose taking the canopy into the blades? That happened to me once, it was pretty ugly.

Could be your dampeners are worn or you're using the soft dampeners? I haven't heard much about boom strikes on the 500.

We haven't seen Colonel Angus around these parts for years!

I think that I have narrowed it down to ,the canopy had to have come off and went threw the blades then causing a boom strike. I checked the dampers today and they show a little sign of wear but I don't think that it was enough to cause a boom strike.
I will be replacing them with some harder dampers I guess this is a good time to upgrade.
I was thinking of the T.tube. and some faster paddles.

I tend think you would have broken the main blades. unless you were running a CF boom.

Were your boom supports tight and pinned? A CF boom should have been more forgiving on support slop.

Check the posts on the 'other' forum about running a 600's 400mm flybar rod cut down to 380mm for a peppy cyclic.

Are you saying that the fly bar off of a 600 will work on the 500 if I cut it to 380mm? I will try and do a search.

There is nothing wrong with the stock 500 fly bar I really think your canopy might have cause your crash.

+ 1 on the canopy comming off .... I had that happen twice

Ditch the canopy mounts, and make up a pair of 20mm standoffs, and use thumb screws to hold the canopy on, and youll never have it hapen again

I just drilled two small holes in the stock plastic mounts and use some hitch pins. Kind of like an evo 50. It works great..
