Alex fly into the Indianapolis airport. Take 69 all the way to Exit 34. With is SR 67. Take SR 67 all the way to Memorial Drive. Coming off the ramp make a left onto Memorial Drive. Can't miss the AMA site from there.

I've never been a big fan of camping but Ircha does look like the perfect place for it. Anyone have any tips or suggestions for those of us who might be thinking about it?

I too, am thinking of camping at IRCHA this coming year. I'd be grateful for some tips too.

Yeah, what Mike said, he and I will be busy cooking chicken wings and kabobs, while scarfing down rumballs and listening to the tunes that Tim is playing while the rumball night flyers carry on. Go SWARM and NWMICH HELI guys.

A reclining chair is great for catching afternoon naps so you can play all night.

No tips really. Just byob. hehe. Anyways will have to ask Millner about the camping locations. It's always a great time. Flying usually way after the sun goes down.

From what we experienced for "08":

RV Camping:
At Site 4 (IRCHA Event location):
By end of Tuesday there were only 1 or 2 electrical hook-ups left if you were pulling a travel trailer/5th wheel. Certainly you could run generators.
RV parking on the grass is thought-out to try to lessen the need for tow-trucks in the event of a serious Indiana rain event.

At Site 3 there's plenty of RV parking on a gravel lot...but you're a good mile or more away from the flightline. There are public showers at Site 3...so no need to bathe in the pond at the entrance.

Tents:
As you travel from the main entrance, there is a small area for primitive camping along the way...again keeps you pretty far from the flightline.

Think that most of us camping setup home on the south side (left in the photo) of the road behind the flightline.

I recall that if you setup a tent anywhere on the AMA property...there was a small registration fee for overnight camping.

Food:
There were a few vendors there...didn't eat theirs though...we went BYOF!

I'd suggest bringing your own water/gatorade...unless you want to spend your heli-dollars on bottled stuff.

Hat,Sun-screen & bug spray.

Plenty of "honey-pots" about and hand-washing stations.

Take a look:

Nice to get out of the heat an hour or so and visit the museum at the front of the property.

lotta ins, lotta outs

i found when i was heading there last year i could not fly direct from Vancouver or Seattle to Indianapolis, Most consisted of stopping in Chicago and then 4 hours later getting an hour connecting flight. So we just rented a truck in chicago and did the 3 hour drive down. It was an easy drive.

Stayed at the Days Inn, which was pretty good, the halls had a stale smoke odour, but the beds were relativly good..

only about 10min to the ircha site. and there is a mcdonalds and starbucks right on the way..

the biggest trick is renting a golf cart... if they allow them after last year(hopefully they will) Dont leave until the last minute, i was calling around a week before and finally found the last one at a place in indianapolis, which after some sweet talking said they could deliver it to ircha...

Don't forget that '09 IRCHA is tagged on the end of the FAI F3C World Championships. Go a day or two early and catch the finals. Best in the world will be there.

Food, no sweat at IRCHA

The local boy scout troop does a great job for breakfast, fast, cheap and good. The IRCHA registration includes a nice Saturday night catered meal before the night fly finale. Dominoes Pizza sets up a mini kitchen on site for your daytime flying lunch needs. A BBQ vendor also set up on site for another meal choice. If you are a party animal and make it on time Friday night you can always bum some chicken wings and kabobs at the improptu SWARM party. Hopefully this year we get guys from other regions to bring a regional favorite to add to this late night cocktail/nightfly/rumball/bullsession/rockfestival/lightshow.

How about you Texas boys bring some Cowboy cuisine, or Chesapeake boys some crabcake delights, Gulf coast boys some Cajun creations/West coast guys some cool dips and salsas/Canadians, you can bring the Moosehead/Labatts/Molsons. So if you have a favorite regional treat bring a bunch, setup a table and help us rock the house. Also team guys bring all the brochure chicks to help the party, ladies eat and drink free. Put together your beater night bird and bring your glass/tunes and share the night.

So don't sweat the food, but if you must, SAMS/WALMART grocery is two miles down the interstate from Memorial Blvd. Get a cheap foam cooler/ice/and fill it and just rough it.

You has to pay to play. Get over it, for the cash IRCHA gives you
a cool t-shirt and if you are fast and early the vendors come through with lots of swag and bling. Their party, their rules. Best money you will spend next summer. Sell one piece of heli junk and you have the fee.
