Hey Everyone,

For christmas this year, I asked my parents to get me a cheap 5.1 surround sound speaker set. I suggested a cheap set from Canadian Tire for 69 bucks on sale. It's just a Curtis set, and isn't very nice, but will work just fine for what I was wanting to do with it.

I am a gamer using an xbox 360, and an LG 32 inch LCD tv. My idea was to get a bit better sound for my games.

The problem is, the DVD player that comes in the package does not have any sound inputs! Obviously this means I can't get any sound from my 360! What I did was used an RCA cable to go from the TV output, to the sub input (The sub controls the 5 other speakers). With this, I was able to get sound from the speakers, and use the 360 as well. The problem is that I have NO volume control. I am not able to increase or decrease the volume with the TV. Even after I messed with the settings of the TV (I thought I should be able to control the volume this way).

So I've got a bit of a problem. The sound after I did this is great, but I have no volume control. Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks

Without knowing what your surround actually has for inputs and controls its hard to say. off the top of my head....

I would guess that you have gone from a line out to a line in. To accomplish this your going to need an audio mixer/amp in between to control the level. You could use a stereo L-pad as well, which is an arrangement that works like a dimmer switch on a light. This is presuming though that the volume level you have now is to loud and need to turn it down. If you need more volume, back to the mixer/amp.

you can get an in-line signal attenuator/booster OR you can get a Y splitter and connect the xbox sound output to the TV and to the sub directly, then you can use the Xbox volume control to adjust.

Of course since you probably dont have a Y on you, you can hook xbox directly to sub and still control vol from xbox but will have NO audio on TV at all....

OHHH, and by the way, make sure turing the volume knob on DVD player doesnt do the trick! some of these all in one systems are funky, and the sub and DVD player are likely communicating and the "brains" are in the DVD player (weather it is actually playing a dvd or not)....

Does it have Optical Input for it? You should hook up 360 to system with optical.

reading threw the manual for the DVD player, as well as looking at it, I cannot find a single 'input' jack on the DVD unit at all. I guess this means I'm scrwed.

I'd say get a new DVD player, if that's an option.
